Curator Welcome: Latin American Art and Culture

About this event

Join Gilcrease Museum in welcoming Dr. Alejandro Garay Celeita, our inaugural Assistant Curator of Latin American Art, to Tulsa! In conversation with Bruce Willis, Executive Director of the Center for Humanities, Alejandro will discuss his book, Constelaciones visuales, which explores how nineteenth-century foreign travelers helped shape images and ideas of Colombia. Together, they’ll consider whose perspectives shape the stories we tell about a place—and how art can invite us to see those stories differently. The evening will also introduce Alejandro’s work with Gilcrease’s Latin American collections and his vision for bringing their stories to our community. Representatives from Tulsa’s Hispanic & Latinx Affairs Commission will introduce Alejandro, and a reception catered by Que Gusto will follow the conversation. Come meet Alejandro, learn about his scholarship, and help us welcome him to Tulsa! Have questions or concerns? We’re happy to help. Contact us at gilcreaseprograms@utulsa.edu
