  • On Dec. 3, 2025, rescuers from Oklahoma Alliance for Animals and Skiatook Paws and Claws rescued about 50 dogs & cats from an unsafe hoarding situation in Washington County. The nonprofit now seeks community support through donations to help cover veterinary care and foster placements.  News On 6
  • Food truck I Heart Cookies brought its smart zoo of animatronic animals like a T-Rex and 12-foot cobra to Owasso on Sunday. The tour continues with a stop in Tahlequah today before moving on to Muskogee, Okmulgee, and McAlester in the coming days.  FOX 23
  • Members of Tulsa's Venezuelan community shared hope after Maduro's capture, saying the change marks a fresh start for Venezuela. Local business owner (Antojos To Go) noted that increased U.S. private investment in the oil industry could boost the country's recovery.  2 News
  • Over the weekend, community members gathered at the Oktaha school softball field to pray for 10-year-old Bentley Green, who is in a Tulsa hospital after a Christmas Day crash in Muskogee. His family said he is slowly improving as doctors continue treatment.  News On 6
  • Venezuelans in Tulsa celebrated news of Nicolás Maduro’s capture today, saying it ends a dictatorship that lasted over 25 years. Local teachers felt relief and hope (with some expressing caution about foreign influence) as they looked forward to positive change.  KTUL

CULTURE NEWS

  • Applications are open for the 2026 Artist Residency at Oxley Nature Center, where selected artists will get studio space, $3,000 + up to $500 for materials, and monthly Saturday workshops from mid-March through mid-October. The deadline to apply is Jan. 9.  FOX 23

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • ODOT reported a repair project near Jenks on HWY75 led to lane closures and delays when work began at 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 4 (between 96th Street and the Creek Turnpike). Crews will rehab the bridges through 2026, so drivers should follow signals and plan alternate routes.  News On 6
  • Today, crews in Owasso will remobilize on East 96th Street North between North 119th Street and North 121st East Avenue, moving equipment + staking, surveying and locating utilities; traffic control will be reinstalled Friday and roadway work begins Jan. 12 with final completion set for April 5.  FOX 23
  • PSO filed a rate review with the Oklahoma Corporation Commission that could raise residential bills by about ($25) for a typical 1,100 kWh monthly user if approved by July, and the filing outlines special conditions for new large customers to ensure fair cost distribution during planned grid upgrades.  FOX 23

  • Oklahoma lawmakers said $223M in federal funding will support innovative rural health care models in 2026—helping to address provider shortages and access gaps. The state Department of Health will oversee distribution as budget pressures and rising insurance costs prompt new measures.  News On 6
  • Monarch Speech and Language Institute (MSLI) has opened at the Grant Building on 100th E Avenue to offer bilingual speech therapy in English and Spanish. The center serves about 20 children now and plans to add public speaking programs later to meet growing community needs.  2 News
