BUSINESS NEWS

  • A Grove woman won $1 million on a $30 scratch-off ticket bought on Christmas Eve at the Grove Walmart and scratched it on Christmas Day. She claimed her prize on Thursday and said the win will help build a house, pay off bills, and add to her savings.  KTUL
  • Local business leaders are reacting to the proposed closure of the Macy’s fulfillment center in Owasso (raising concerns for affected workers) and are working with partners to support workforce transition. The Tulsa Regional and Owasso Chambers plan to help displaced employees and explore repurposing the facility for economic development.  KTUL

CULTURE NEWS

  • Tom McCarthy (a former AP journalist) is working with the Tulsa Foundation for Architecture to create a video series that explores Tulsa's unique Art Deco landmarks, including the 11th Street Bridge, Mayo Motor Inn, and Tulsa Club Building. The series will debut on TFA's Facebook and Instagram pages on Jan. 15.  FOX 23

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lawmakers will debate House Bill 2095 in February at the state capitol to fund free school lunches after a prior mandate left school districts covering costs. Rep. Mickey Dollens + Hunger Free Oklahoma support the bill, saying it will ease the strain on districts and families facing food insecurity.  KTUL
  • Attorney General Gentner Drummond announced an investigation into a proposed mosque and commercial development in Broken Arrow after public concerns over funding and oversight surfaced. The city council will review the project on Jan. 12 following its December 18 approval.  KTUL
  • ODOT halted the bridge project on Highway 75 near Jenks on Thursday due to an eagle's nest, and crews waited to resume work after the agency began discussions with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife service (balancing wildlife needs with construction plans).  FOX 23

HEALTH NEWS

  • Yesterday, Our Blood Institute declared an emergency blood shortage after local stocks fell from 5,200 to 2,200 and imported 300 units from the East Coast. The institute urges all healthy donors (16 or older) to donate now to support patient care.  FOX 23
  • A hospice patient fulfilled his final wish Jan. 8 when he and his wife enjoyed a meal at Hard Rock Casino buffet, arranged by his care team & community partners.  FOX 23
  • GRAND Mental Health will continue offering Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic services in Tulsa County under a new contract, ensuring current clients receive uninterrupted care while expanding access for more residents.  KTUL

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Residents at Crestview Senior Duplexes in north Tulsa feared displacement on Jan. 8 after new ownership raised rents by $250, sparking worry among seniors on fixed incomes. The higher rate may push residents to look for new housing options soon.  FOX 23

  • The Oklahoma Special Olympics Winter Games are underway at OU (in Norman) with a record 2,700 athletes competing through Saturday, and the Owasso High School Rams are among the 152 teams playing in sports such as basketball, bowling, swimming, cheerleading, and volleyball while seeking to beat local rivals.  2 News
