COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Emergency shelters will house neighbors and pets as the winter storm nears. The Tulsa Dream Center is accepting donated pet supplies and the Oklahoma Alliance for Animals urges pet owners to bring animals indoors (the City ordinance requires pets be kept inside when temps drop below 25 degrees).  2 News
  • Local organizations are prepping as dangerously cold temperatures approach for those without shelter. The Merchant is offering transport to local shelters now while Mobile Missions Network will provide meals, warm clothing & showers Saturday through Monday.  KTUL

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Local grocery stores are bracing for the first major winter storm of the season and urge shoppers to buy only what they need as road conditions worsen. Oasis Fresh Market and Reasor’s are working with suppliers to keep shelves stocked through today and tomorrow — deliveries may slow if icy roads worsen.  KTUL

  • Circle Cinema launches its Indie Lens Pop-Up series in Tulsa with free documentary screenings and community discussions starting Tuesday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. with PBS’ The Librarians featuring Tulsa librarian Kirby Mackenzie and additional screenings planned throughout spring.  News On 6

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Tulsa International Airport held its first State of the Airport event to share its progress from the past year, and a winter storm warning with heavy mixed precipitation + extreme cold is expected to cause hazardous travel conditions from noon today through Sunday.  FOX 23
  • The Association for Unscrewed Vehicle Systems International, a leading group in drone and autonomous tech, will hold events in Tulsa soon. A winter storm warning with heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain is in effect from noon today until 3 p.m. Sunday — extreme cold may threaten travel until Monday.  FOX 23

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Crews began pre-treatment Thursday and will deploy full teams at 4:00 p.m. today to keep key routes open as a winter storm approaches. Officials say 60 workers, 15 trucks, and supplies of brine, salt, and sand will service 660 miles of county road.  2 News
  • Southwest Power Pool has announced a resource advisory from Saturday through Monday as a large winter storm approaches, letting residents track grid conditions on its website where forecasts update every five minutes + comparing short-term load with actual demand.  KTUL
  • Tulsa County Highway District and City crews are pre-treating roads, bridges, and overpasses with plows and brine – using about 4,000 gallons to prevent icy patches as winter weather nears. Crews in McAlester are readying 300 to 350 tons of salt and equipment to help drivers navigate safely.  KTUL
  • An income-based apartment complex in south Tulsa faces a possible water cutoff because its property management company did not pay a $67,800 bill — the city said if the balance remains unpaid, a water truck and outreach partners will step in to help tenants maintain basic water access.  2 News

  • Owasso tenant Sarah Ledbetter said tests later showed mold levels 16 times above the safe limit after repair work on a recurring ceiling hole, and she was issued an eviction notice for withholding rent. Management completed repairs on Dec. 31, but her family remains worried for future residents.  KTUL
  • Vesta Realty CEO Marc Kulick addressed tenant concerns about trash and maintenance delays following numerous emails from residents at 39 apartment complexes around Tulsa and Oklahoma City. He urged residents who experience issues (such as long water shutoffs or slow work orders) to contact the corporate office directly.  2 News
