  • Tulsa Animal Services is now caring for 432 animals after last week’s winter storm, and the shelter is urging families to foster or adopt as space nears its limit ahead of new freezing temperatures today and Saturday.  News On 6
  • Community HigherEd Institute got $16 million from philanthropist Mackenzie Scott and will use the funds to support its education programs locally + the donation gives the nonprofit a strong start in 2026.  FOX 23

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • An apartment fire displaced several residents at Darlington Oaks near 51st and Yale on Thursday, Jan. 29; firefighters contained the flames in 20 minutes (no injuries were reported) and the Red Cross is assisting those affected.  2 News

  • Tulsa grocery stores prepared ahead of a severe winter storm by ordering extra essentials and coordinating with vendors to keep shelves stocked as icy roads slowed deliveries. Reasor’s and La Cosecha used early weather warnings (and extra labor) to meet higher customer demand.  FOX 23

  • The University of Tulsa & Teach For America are partnering today for the Lead the Future of Education event, aimed at inspiring student leaders to address opportunity gaps.   • An Owasso assistant principal built a homemade igloo with her husband during recent snow days and used it as her virtual classroom to teach how snow forms and the differences between snow and ice igloos. She plans to build a taller one next winter.  2 News
  • Educators in Tulsa face a teacher shortage with 11% holding emergency certifications — a measure that allows teaching without standard training. Senate Bill 1432 will expand mentoring through the University of Oklahoma’s FAST program when committee begins on Feb. 2.  KTUL

  • Tulsa city leaders announced that the Financial Empowerment Center now offers legacy planning along with wealth-building coaching to help residents improve long-term finances — the free service, a Tulsa Responds and Goodwill Industries partnership, is available near 15th Street and Yale Avenue.  2 News

  • At a packed Arvest Convention Center meeting, new Tulsa Regional Chamber Chair Dr. Cliff Robertson announced three 2026 priorities — quarterly public safety briefings, improved mental health access, and a talent hub — aiming to foster a healthier community and better address challenges like homelessness.  2 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Saint Francis Health System unveiled its $357M expansion at its South facility on Thursday, doubling ICU and PCU capacity and raising operating room count from 4 to 14 with 450 new jobs expected (four years in the making).  2 News
  • Saint Francis Hospital South hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new expansion today, marking a boost in local healthcare services. A cold weather advisory (from midnight Friday night to noon Saturday) warns of wind chills as low as 10 below zero and advises residents to dress warmly when outdoors.  FOX 23

  • Eton Square is getting a major makeover as renovations update Parcels C and B with new HVAC, parking, and landscaping.
