  • Tulsa community mourns master gardener Earl Stripling, whose passing was announced on Facebook this week. Inheritance Juicery has launched a GoFundMe for his family + will sell Earl’s Harvest juice with 100% of proceeds going to help cover funeral costs.  2 News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Sand Springs fire department responded to a house fire over the weekend off Highway 51 (near S. 137 W. Ave) where one resident died; fire officials stressed proper precautions with space heaters and generators and urged residents to have an escape plan as winter risks rise.  News On 6

CULTURE NEWS

  • Hip-hop artist Jabee, a Governor’s Art Award winner known for blending music, history and community activism, will perform in Tulsa on May 8 while a film project documents his 15-year journey and civic work through LiveFree Oklahoma.  News On 6

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University of Tulsa introduced Goldie III as its new mascot on National Golden Retriever Day; the golden retriever puppy will attend select campus events during the spring semester and train with a pro this summer (orientation for the incoming class of 2030 starts in August).  FOX 23
  • Union High School will stage 'Shrek the Musical' Feb. 5-7 at 7 p.m. at the Union Performing Arts Center on S Mingo Road where 150 students, including actors, technicians & orchestra members, perform a production that blends humor with lessons in self-confidence.  News On 6
  • Children at Aspen Creek Elementary participated in a beam signing event on Feb. 3 as construction on their school addition reached its next step. The activity demonstrated progress in the building project & involved student participation.  FOX 23
  • Students at Walt Whitman Elementary in Tulsa picked three free books each at a library fair — hosted by the Scripps Howard Fund — to help spark interest in reading. The event gave kids an opportunity to choose stories they enjoy for sharing at home.  2 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Cherokee Nation leaders propose to allocate over $6.5 million from opioid litigation funds to expand their Coming Home Reentry Program by designating $4 million for transitional housing and support services. The Cherokee Nation Council will review the proposal later this month (specific locations and timelines are pending).  KTUL
  • The Tulsa Financial Empowerment Center celebrated five years of free financial counseling for 8,000 residents since its late 2020 opening, helping clients reduce debt by $3.3 million and raise savings by $1.3 million. The center also added legacy planning and partnered with Tulsa Municipal Court to waive fines.  KTUL
  • State Sen. Casey Murdock filed a bill to remove the OSSAA and create an Oklahoma Athletics and Activities Commission to oversee high school sports starting in the 2027-28 season. Athletic director Lance Parks warned that cutting the current structure may challenge coaches + players if the proposal passes.  2 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Oklahomans using ACA plans saw premium hikes after enhanced federal tax credits expired at the end of 2025; some plans rose 60+75% and overall rates averaged 20+21%, prompting many to switch to lower-cost or employer coverage.  KTUL

  • Registration for this year's 20th anniversary Saint Francis Tulsa Tough opened today at noon, letting cyclists secure spots for the three-day event with the King of the Road theme and Junior Camp sign ups, as the race runs from June 5 — 7.  FOX 23
