COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Islamic Society of Tulsa will host a free community open house on Sunday, Feb. 15 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at its mosque (4630 S. Irvington Ave) to offer light refreshments while leaders discuss plans to expand in nearby Broken Arrow after a recent rezoning setback.  KTUL
  • Jenks High School seniors raised over $4,000 and helped furnish a transitional home for eight veterans through Heroes Hope. The home opens Feb. 15 — students built furniture and moved supplies to create a safe space for veterans.  2 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Chipotle Mexican Grill will open at Sheffield Crossing (420 S. Highway 97) in Sand Springs by fourth quarter, bringing new dining options and job opportunities. City officials say the development supports local economic growth.  KTUL

CULTURE NEWS

  • Tulsa's Greenwood District (Black Wall Street) was once a thriving community with over 300 Black-owned businesses starting in 1906 before it was largely destroyed in the 1921 race massacre. The area partially rebuilt afterward, though its historic wealth was never fully restored.  2 News
  • Historic Vernon AME Church held its groundbreaking on Feb. 12 to transform its basement into (a $1.5 million interpretive center) that will display over 5,000 artifacts and share Greenwood’s full story. Construction will begin in coming weeks and take about 18 months, funded by the Mellon Foundation.  News On 6
  • A fundraiser for The Neil Diamond Musical: A Beautiful Noise raised nearly $2,400 for the Oklahoma Parkinson’s Alliance to back local programs in Tulsa, including speech therapy and exercise classes, as the show opens next week.  News On 6

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tulsa Health Department and OSU Master Gardeners host a free Spring Into Growth series starting Thursday, Feb. 19 at the North Regional Health and Wellness Center + with in-person and virtual options. The four one-hour sessions run through May 21 and cover gardening basics and space-saving techniques.  KTUL
  • A recent ranking highlighted the best STEM schools in Oklahoma, naming top programs from both Oklahoma City and Tulsa, including Holland Hall, Cascia Hall Preparatory School, and Booker T. Washington High School. Families can explore advanced science, math, and technology courses at these schools to help students prepare for future studies.  News On 6

  • Former Osage Nation Principal Chief Jim Gray died this week, known for strengthening sovereignty and expanding voting rights during a major settlement. Flags are lowered in his honor — funeral services begin Monday at 8:30 a.m. at Wakon Iron Chapel and burial follows at 11:30 a.m. at Osage National Cemetery.  News On 6

HEALTH NEWS

  • Oklahoma Caring Vans are providing free flu shots and other immunizations at nine mobile units across the state to protect families during peak flu season+ the program expects to deliver nearly 5,000 vaccinations and requires parents to bring current shot records.  News On 6

  • A renter in Tulsa says she has had no running water since moving in last month and reports dirty bathrooms, mold, and other code violations (the property manager claims the tenant must set up water). Brisker is moving to a hotel while facing eviction.  News On 6
