COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Jenks will block off parking on Main Street from March 13 to March 22 to test a redesign that will widen pedestrian walkways and offer more outdoor space for downtown businesses (feedback will be accepted until March 28).  KTUL
  • A Tulsa-based nonprofit is adding an immersive walkthrough experience to its annual Encounter Hope gala at the Arvest Convention Center on April 9; guests will follow a survivor's journey in four stages and then assemble move-in kits and write personal notes to support shelter guests.  KTUL
  • Skelly Elementary’s food pantry in east Tulsa is running low on donations needed to serve over 20 families, and teacher Candice Bobnock is urging residents to help meet demand (97% of students are economically disadvantaged).  2 News
  • Recovery Solutions rebuilt and expanded its sober living program after a fire in October 2025 left its original home in ruins, moving from one to four houses with help from community donations; it now supports both men & women on the path to recovery locally.  2 News
  • Tulsa officials and local icons will serve as grand marshals for the Tulsa Route 66 Capital Cruise: Classic Car Centennial Parade. The parade begins at Expo Square at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 30, with expo and tailgate events scheduled for May 28 + May 29.  KTUL
  • Chief Charley Pearson of the Rock Volunteer Fire Department turned down a $250K donation from Google after his board discussed concerns over increased traffic and diminished safety from a proposed data center (a decision made to keep public trust intact).  KTUL

CULTURE NEWS

  • Tulsa officials have updated guidelines for the Route 66 neon sign grant program to require traditional glass tubing with internal illumination (either neon gas or LED filament) to preserve the road’s historic look. The new rules support businesses as the city readies for Route 66’s Centennial celebration later this year.  FOX 23

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kids can now apply for Tulsa Community College Children's Summer Theatre Camp for students 6 and up; the camp will begin in June and teach skills such as auditioning, character creation, rehearsals, blocking, and improvisation (casting in productions including Disney's Winnie the Pooh, Chicken Little, and Beetlejuice Junior musicals).  FOX 23
  • Tulsa Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Ebony Johnson will hold a free forum to answer questions on a $609 million bond package for school improvements on Tuesday, Mar. 10 at the Tulsa Flyer newsroom at 101 East Archer Street—voters should note the bond vote and school board elections on Apr. 7.  FOX 23
  • Oklahoma lawmakers are pushing a bill to limit elementary students’ screen time to about one hour per day in classrooms that increasingly rely on digital devices. State officials say local administrators will enforce the change as discussions continue and adjustments are expected before the final vote.  KTUL
  • The National Weather Service held a free storm spotter training Wednesday in Tulsa to help residents prepare for severe weather season (providing hands-on guidance for identifying and reporting storms).  FOX 23

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Cherokee Nation leaders approved $6.5M from opioid settlement funds to expand reentry services and allocated $4M for building and operating transitional housing for formerly incarcerated citizens. The decision was made earlier this week, and facility planning will follow after a sustainability analysis.  KTUL

HEALTH NEWS

  • A local business helped families with children in hospice care by collecting aluminum cans for its Cans for Cancer program. The initiative in Green Country was reported on Mar. 4 and supports kids battling cancer.  FOX 23
