COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A Tulsa business is raising money with a new program called Cans for Cancer (aluminum cans are collected every Sunday) to fund final trips for pediatric hospice patients. The Mobleys have already helped one child and plan to expand assistance as more cans are donated.  News On 6

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A natural gas line was struck yesterday near 27th Street & Harvard Avenue, forcing business closures and road shutdowns; repairs continue this morning as crews complete safety checks before some establishments reopen.  KTUL

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Tulsa International Airport welcomed Alaska Airlines on its first day of service to two West Coast cities today. Officials say the new route will boost travel options for locals (clear skies and mild winds prevail).  FOX 23

CRIME NEWS

  • A Tulsa-area family said their husband, father and pastor was deported on Mar. 18 after a routine immigration check.  FOX 23

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lawmakers have proposed to double recess time to 40 minutes for elementary students—allowing schools to adjust their schedules—while educators and parents debate if more unstructured play improves learning and safety. The bill passed the Senate and now moves to the House.  KTUL
  • Tulsa Public Schools is accepting applications for its Teacher Corps program for the 2026–27 school year; the free six-week training guides degree holders with a minimum 2.5 GPA to a teaching career (applications must be submitted by May 1).  KTUL
  • Town & Country School has partnered with the University of Tulsa to host a weekly chess club that helps students with learning differences build social skills. The session begins Wednesday, March 25 at 8 a.m. near 34th Street and Mingo Road.  KTUL
  • State Senate leaders plan to use $254 million from the Teachers' Retirement System to fund a $2,500 teacher pay raise while capping annual contributions at $200 million—retired educator Janet Brewster warns the proposal could risk long-term benefits. Lawmakers have yet to finalize details.  2 News

  • Tulsa Mayor designated March 14 as Genealogy Day to honor victims of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre and spotlight efforts such as Oaklawn Cemetery updates (including DNA research). The city will offer genealogy workshops with forensic experts and the Greenwood Cultural Center from June 18 through June 20.  KTUL
  • Crews placed the first pre-cast concrete girder on March 17 to start building the new Tenkiller Bridge near Tulsa + officials say this milestone is key to creating a safer roadway.  KTUL
  • Drivers in Bixby are urged to slow down along 111th Street as construction continues between Memorial Drive and Mingo Road — the 25 mph limit remains in effect and police are increasing presence to monitor compliance with the posted speed restrictions.  KTUL
