CRIME NEWS

  • Skeletal remains believed to be human were found in Joe Creek near 73rd and Trenton, and Tulsa Police with the medical examiner investigated the scattered and partially buried remains on March 26th at 1:16 p.m.  News On 6
  • Tulsa County Sheriff's Office warned residents of an ongoing phone scam where callers claim a warrant for failing to appear for a jury summons and demand immediate payment via cash cards or cryptocurrency; officials said a resident lost over $39,000 and urged anyone receiving such a call to hang up and report at (918-596-5600).  FOX 23

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Center for Poets and Writers at OSU-Tulsa, established in 1994, runs writing workshops, reading series, and film events like Tulsa LitFest to foster a diverse literary community of local and national writers. It now offers a Playwriting Workshop with scholarships for young writers and will co-host a short play contest with submissions opening in June, a table read in July, and the top three plays produced in September.  News On 6

  • Atlas School is holding an open house today as part of Women's History Month to encourage women to join software development—attendees can enjoy dinner, networking and a talk by Taguma Nichols starting at 5:30 p.m. at the school.  News On 6

FINANCE NEWS

  • Amber Guiptons is Tulsa’s new financial empowerment director for the Office of Financial Empowerment and Community Wealth who said residents can access free tax preparation through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program and financial counseling at walk-in centers located at 21st and Sheridan and 16th and Yale—services that will be available until Tax Day on April 15.  News On 6

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Early voting begins today for the April 1 election in Oklahoma—voters will decide on state and local races, school bond proposals, and a Claremore sales tax increase—while polling sites remain open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Friday.  News On 6
  • Tulsa locals are following a strong debate on wind energy as lawmakers consider bills to push turbines farther from homes. State Representative Jim Shaw said the projects do not bring enough benefits while executive director Mark Yates said they will add funds for schools and roads—updates on these bills are expected soon.  2 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Tulsa man on vacation felt burning pain in his arm and chest that made him worry about his heart, and a nurse at Ascension St. John convinced him to go to the ER. She acted quickly and he later had open heart surgery—an action that likely saved his life.  FOX 23
  • Ashlee and Ray Hall, who fought stage 3 colorectal cancer, will host a 12-hour mountain bike race on April 12 at their 112-acre trail system in Sand Springs to raise funds for an Oklahoma man fighting the disease. Their event also aims to boost community awareness and encourage early screening as more young people are affected.  News On 6
  • Tulsa woman Baha Srour started the Giving Heart Foundation in 2020 after battling breast cancer to offer support, financial help, and recovery equipment to women in treatment—each chair provided comes with a side table, compression boots, and a blanket and is delivered to patients with volunteer help. This nonprofit aims to ease the recovery process by taking care of essential needs at home.  News On 6
