COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Tulsa chapter of 100 Black Men of America—founded in the early 1990s—will host its 31st Annual Gala this weekend at Osage Casino on 36th Street North to honor nine community members and award ten $5,000 scholarships through a partnership with the Lockett Up Foundation. The nonprofit will use its funds—raised from donations and ticket sales—to support youth mentorship, education, and outreach programs in Tulsa.  News On 6

CRIME NEWS

  • Tulsa Police are searching for 44-year-old Joseph Hobbs for domestic assault and battery after he allegedly choked a woman, placed her in a headlock and slammed her into a wall in February — anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 918-596-COPS.  News On 6

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mark Goeller, the former head of the Oklahoma Forestry Service, defended his agency’s wildfire response in a social media post after his firing on March 26 — he said his team prepared in advance by alerting the public and positioning firefighting resources to save lives and property.  News On 6
  • Mayor Monroe Nichols has announced Community Conversations across Tulsa running April 22 to May 19 with sessions from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at sites in all regions, and residents will hear updates from the mayor, city council, and City Auditor and speak one-on-one with city officials—ensuring every voice is heard.  FOX 23
  • Fired Director of Forestry Mark Goeller said on Facebook that his agency prepared in advance, warned the public, and sent firefighters promptly while he was falsely accused of mismanaging resources during wildfires. Governor Stitt said firefighting resources were delayed during a historic wildfire that left over 515 families homeless—actions that led to Goeller’s termination.  2 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Breast cancer survivors Edie Tolbert and Sarah McLean are hosting the Survivor Expo in Tulsa to provide support, education, and resources for those living after treatment. The expo will be held Saturday, April 5 at the OU Schusterman Center (41st and Yale) beginning at 9:30 a.m. and ending at 2:30 p.m. with lunch provided and a $10 registration fee (fee applies).  News On 6
  • Family and Children Services lost about $2.5 million in state funding for its COPES and Crisis Care Center programs that help people in mental health crises, and the state said similar services are provided by other programs (including the 988 Lifeline and mobile crisis teams). Local officials and the nonprofit will meet to plan next steps and prevent cuts from setting Tulsa back decades (with concerns about increased strain on public safety resources).  News On 6
