COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Mrs. Roper Romp will take place on April 25 at ONEOK Field as a 1970s-themed fundraiser supporting Family Promise of Tulsa County in its mission to help homeless families. The event will run from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will feature food, games, and group photos—activities designed to raise both funds and awareness for essential support services.  News On 6
  • Local business owner Clay Stunkard removed graffiti from Tulsa businesses on Monday, April 7th, 8:29 p.m.—he is using his skills through the Community Cleanup Initiative to offer free services that will continue through the summer.  News On 6

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Thirteen Tulsa Public Schools campuses exited the state’s Comprehensive Support and Improvement designation after Spring 2024 test scores and other measures showed they met state standards. District leaders said the progress—built on focused academic support and targeted strategies—boosted the total number of upgraded campuses to 19 this academic year.  News On 6

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents must obtain a Real ID by May 7 to fly domestically or enter certain federal facilities—this rule comes from a national security initiative. Tulsa residents can visit any DMV or use Service Oklahoma’s after-hours appointments on Real ID Mondays and Wednesdays—appointments available from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  2 News
  • City Auditor Nathan Pickard has launched the 'Evaluate the 918' campaign to gather Tulsan input on local services — residents can take a brief survey on the auditor’s website until May 7th and their feedback will help shape the next annual audit.  News On 6
  • Attorneys for 54-year-old April Wilkens filed a writ of habeas corpus to have her placed on supervised release until her pending resentencing hearing under the Oklahoma Survivors’ Act—she has served nearly 27 years in prison for first-degree murder and her lawyers say a delay by District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler makes her sentence unlawful.  KTUL
  • Yesterday, the Tulsa Public Schools board approved the Parents Bill of Rights, which gives parents the right to opt out of assignments, immunizations, and sexual education and to review instructional materials online as Superintendent Ebony Johnson explained. Some board members expressed reluctance during the vote while parents from North Tulsa called for better teacher communication—district leaders invited families to share any concerns directly.  2 News
