- ➤ The Tulsa Fire Department, American Red Cross, and ONE Gas volunteers launched Project Life in east Tulsa on Friday to install free smoke alarms in 408 high-risk homes—spanning 11th Street South to 21st Street South. Spanish-speaking volunteers helped ensure that residents understand how smoke alarms give extra time to safely exit during a fire. FOX 23
- ➤ Tulsa Fire Department, the American Red Cross, and One Gas partnered today to reduce house fire deaths by installing smoke detectors in over 400 homes using about 36 volunteers. The program uses bilingual teams to design custom escape plans + offers free installations year-round. KTUL
- ➤ Catholic Charities Market in Tulsa is changing its schedule so shoppers will get food every other month instead of every month starting (May 1) to meet rising demand due to higher food prices and fewer free supplies. Senior Director Tim Neuman said they will review the change after a few months to ensure families in need continue to receive help. 2 News

- ➤ Middle school teams from Missouri, New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma competed at Tulsa Community College's Riverside community campus and aviation center on Friday in the 2025 South Central Drone Championship—officials said the event promoted STEM and they plan to hold it every year. FOX 23
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Researchers at Tulsa’s Laureate Institute for Brain Research found that gene changes and ways of thinking may cause 30% of depression patients not to respond to common medicine—this finding was revealed in a study published on April 11th in JAMA Psychiatry that shows doctors could soon use the research to offer more personalized treatment. The study analyzed data from over 500,000 people to pinpoint the factors behind treatment-resistant depression. News On 6
- ➤ The Oklahoma Department of Management and Enterprise Services cut state funds from CREOKS, GRAND Mental Health and Family and Children's Services in Tulsa County, with the termination set to take effect May 10. Providers said they will keep serving patients — they expect to learn more from state officials as they work to fill potential care gaps. FOX 23
