CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Tulsa Police said a third suspect—19-year-old Angel Ibarra—was arrested in Mexico in connection to an ambush shooting in east Tulsa that killed two teens in February, while 18-year-old Christopher Atjun and 16-year-old Joseph Melendez were already taken into custody and charged with first degree murder. - ➤ A Tulsa teen murder suspect, Angel Ibarra, 19, was captured in Mexico and will be extradited to face charges for a February shooting that killed 18-year-olds Arturo Degollado and Jett Brummett—and injured two others. KTUL
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Tribal leaders from the Cherokee, Osage and Muscogee Nations said today they will focus on healthcare investments to improve health outcomes and drive economic growth in northeast Oklahoma—remarks were made during a meeting at the Tulsa Chamber of Commerce. News On 6
- ➤ Tulsa County Opioid Abatement Committee is accepting applications for prevention and treatment program funding through an online portal using settlement funds from six opioid lawsuits received in 2023. Applicants must submit proposals by the end of May 2025 so the committee can review and award one-year nonprofit projects later this summer — further funding includes around $1 million per year until 2033 with additional payments through 2039. - ➤ Starting Saturday, April 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Tulsa Health Department will host a drug take-back event where Tulsa County residents can drop off expired or unwanted medications at select sites — including Reasor’s and Walgreens — as part of an effort with CAPSAT to prevent prescription and substance abuse. - ➤ Valley Hope Addiction Treatment and Recovery opened its new outpatient center in Tulsa near East 91st St and South Memorial Dr to expand access to evidence-based addiction treatment—offering intensive outpatient therapy, group counseling and continuing care for those balancing daily responsibilities.
