EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Tulsa is investigating hazing — at the Kappa Sigma Fraternity House — after security officers confiscated alcohol, controlled substances, weapons and stolen property on April 15.  KTUL
  • Tulsa Public Schools will bring back driver’s education this fall after voters approved the $609 million school bond, and school administrators are meeting to decide course formats and prepare vehicles (with driver simulators) for student lessons.  News On 6

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Cleanup is underway in west Tulsa after an EF-1 tornado damaged several homes near 81st + 33rd, knocked out power for about 30 residences, and toppled trees. Crews are working to clear debris and restore power as residents brace for additional severe weather later.  News On 6

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Jenks Police Department reported that power is out at several intersections, including 91st and Main, 5th and Main, Elwood and Main, Elm and Main, and Beaver and Elm, and advised drivers to treat these as four-way stops until Public Works sets up stop signs.  FOX 23
  • Oklahoma schools may soon offer age-appropriate firearm safety instruction if HB3312 is approved; the bill, authored by Sen. David Bullard (Durant), passed the Senate Education Committee with a vote of 9 to 2 and now awaits full Senate review.  News On 6

  • GRAND Mental Health launched its new digital platform (ApexCare) this month to link people in crisis with clinicians quickly in Tulsa. The free app lets first responders and patients access immediate counseling and follow-up, offering life-saving mental health care.  FOX 23
