  • Today, 67 Oklahoma veterans boarded an honor flight from Tulsa International Airport bound for Washington D.C. to visit memorials honoring their service and receive a heartfelt welcome home upon landing (bringing long-awaited recognition and closure).  2 News
  • Mother Road Market celebrated 10 years of its Kitchen 66 program, which helps small food businesses get started, today in Tulsa+ the event marked a decade of local support.  FOX 23
  • Tulsa residents can share their views in the 'Evaluate the 918' survey that asks for ratings on city services, neighborhood concerns, and improvement ideas. The survey takes 10 to 15 minutes to complete and remains open until the end of April (aiming for broad input) to shape city policies.  News On 6

CULTURE NEWS

  • Crews at Tulsa Zoo are building a new African Wilds expansion that will include a lion habitat, zebra return and a large aviary with a unique baobab (the tree of life) as a focal point. The project will open in late 2027 as the zoo readies for its centennial celebrations.  News On 6
  • The North Tulsa Economic Development Initiative unveiled a vintage phone booth artwork installation that tells north Tulsa's history, located near Stutts House of Bar B Que (on Apache Street). Local artists Anecia and A'Toni Fowlkes said the piece honors the community's resilience.  FOX 23

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The state Senate passed a bill on Apr. 16 to permanently ban cellphones in classrooms. The measure now goes to the House for final review, and its supporters say it will help keep students focused during school hours.  KTUL

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Mary Jackson, president of the Tulsa Audubon Society, asks residents to turn off non-essential lights between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. until May 31 to help migrating birds find safe rest stops during peak migration season.  2 News

  • Residents in east Tulsa say construction traffic for Project Anthem is making 11th Street more dangerous. Neighbors report heavy trucks increasing safety risks and urge developers to use an alternate entrance or direct trucks to the nearby Creek Turnpike.  FOX 23
  • Colorado-based Common Sense Institute reports that Tulsa’s $80 million annual homelessness program may be inadequate, estimating 2,936 affected compared to an official count of 1,449. City officials say recent actions such as moving over 100 residents to permanent housing and clearing downtown campsites are starting to work.  News On 6

  • On Thursday, a new health movement opened its doors in South Tulsa to tackle high rates of chronic illnesses by focusing on root cause healing+ rather than just treating symptoms.  FOX 23
  • Katelyn Woodruff, the 12-year-old daughter of Latimer County Sheriff Woodruff, is slowly recovering in a Tulsa hospital after a severe diabetic crisis that led to ECMO treatment. A fundraiser to support her family runs today from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Rogers County Courthouse & jail.  News On 6
