  • A Tulsa detective rescued a stranded kitten from a highway on Friday, May 1; after it hid under his car dashboard & required a stop at the city garage, a friend later agreed to care for it.  KTUL
  • The 30th annual Kyle Petty Charity Ride, a 3,400-mile motorcycle journey to raise funds for children with serious medical needs, will stop at Expo Square on Tuesday, May 5 in Tulsa. Former NASCAR driver Kyle Petty leads 150 riders while Richard Petty rides on a purple trike.  News On 6
  • A Tulsa pastor said his car window was smashed Thursday near 71st Street and Highway 169 while he was buying meals for people experiencing homelessness. Pastor Solomon Truneh said he forgave the man, called police, had his car repaired by Friday, and continues his outreach.  FOX 23
  • Owasso Community Resources helps more than 1,000 individuals each week through a fresh market and food pantry program. It is accepting donations Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (with further support available on May 9 through the Postal Service's Stamp Out Hunger drive).  2 News

  • Local farrier Bryan Clemmer (ex-TV cameraman) is working this Saturday in Tulsa to help horses improve their steps. He also instructs at Oklahoma Horseshoeing School, proving that some jobs need a human touch no AI can match.  KTUL
  • The renovated Moton Hospital, now the GEM building, hosted a large crowd today and is set up as a hub for entrepreneurs in historic Greenwood. It features the Black Wall Street Liquid Lounge and planned Black Tech Street cyber lab, supported by $9 million from government + private donors.  News On 6

  • Germanfest 2026 opened Friday in Tulsa at the GAST Event Center — the event will feature traditional foods, live music and family activities through Sunday. The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.  FOX 23

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA reported that Tulsa County gas prices reached an average of $3.95 per gallon (45% higher than before the war), prompting many local drivers to cut back on travel and spending.  KTUL
  • Tulsa's Hispanic community now makes up about 20% of the population and boosted GDP by $3.8 billion from 2010 to 2015, a rise that local business owners praise. Events like the 'World Cup' taco contest (hosted on Tulsa Vlogs) show the growing influence of the community in the economy.  2 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The state Senate passed a bill to extend the school year by seven days in districts like Tulsa Public Schools, pending the governor’s approval and a promised $175 million funding boost (if signed, the change will take effect on July 1).  2 News
  • Martin Regional Library will host Free Comic Book Day today from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. near 21st and Garnett, offering free comics for kids, teens, and adults plus crafts, raffle prizes and a photo booth with Buddy the Book Worm and Spiderman to boost reading skills.  News On 6

  • The Oklahoma Senate passed a bill on Wednesday that gives OSSAA flexibility on student transfer rules and requires public eligibility hearings (removing the one-year sit-out requirement) to ensure consistent decisions.
