- ➤ The Tulsa Police Department held its annual memorial service Saturday morning to honor 41 officers who died in the line of duty—surviving family members placed flowers and a 21-gun salute marked the tribute. News On 6
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Former Tulsa fire captain Jerry Brown, who was released from prison last October for previous bank robbery convictions, allegedly attempted to rob a bank in Choctaw last month—he placed a duffel bag on the counter and told a clerk to empty the vault until a security officer with a gun forced him to flee. - ➤ A road rage incident in east Tulsa ended in a deadly stabbing Saturday afternoon when a man used his knife after a woman attacked him with a metal rod near E Admiral and S Garnett — police say both were injured and she later died at the hospital. News On 6
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Oklahoma Senate Bill 364 that would ban corporal punishment for special needs students awaits the Governor's signature after passing the House—this change will affect 125 school districts still using the practice. News On 6
- ➤ Indivisible Tulsa County sponsored a May Day Die-In protest where participants held tombstone-shaped signs with messages warning of deadly cuts to Medicaid and science research funding. Co-leader Susan Young said the protest aimed to spotlight the serious health risks of these proposed policy changes. FOX 23
- ➤ The Tulsa Police Department held a candlelight vigil on Friday night to honor fallen officers (those killed in the line of duty and officers who died in 2024) and a memorial service was held on Saturday that visited burial sites (with markers placed to remember the officers) as part of a national series of events leading up to the National Police Memorial Service on May 15. - ➤ State Representative Ronald Stewart held an emergency town hall meeting on Friday at Langston Tulsa campus — he explained how laws move and discussed bills that could remove protections for Langston University and local tech schools. He answered questions from local residents and warned that lifting the moratorium may risk enrollment and funding losses. FOX 23
- ➤ State Superintendent Ryan Walters settled with the Oklahoma Ethics Commission over alleged mishandling of campaign funds in 2022 and must pay over $18,000 in penalties and attorney fees — his office reported no additional issues have been raised. FOX 23
