- ➤ Today, Tulsa Farmers Market launches its new midweek market in Kendall Whittier, running from 8 to 11 a.m. at 1 S. Lewis Ave through August—offering local produce, live music and community programs. News On 6
- ➤ Family members of two Tulsa students and two coaches killed in a car crash in Kansas have confirmed a candlelight vigil will be held this weekend—at B.C. Franklin Park on May 10 with details on the event time to be announced. KTUL
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ The Kansas Highway Patrol said a deadly head-on collision on U.S. 169 in Kansas resulted in eight deaths - including two Tulsa students and two basketball coaches, one of whom was coach Jaimon Gilstrap whose passing maneuver led the cars into oncoming traffic - as officials continue their investigation. - ➤ University of Tulsa President Brad Carson announced he is stepping down effective May 31 after four years to lead Americans for Responsible Innovation and the Center for Responsible Innovations in Washington DC. The university said the board will name an interim president in the coming weeks and remains confident in its current leadership. FOX 23
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Tulsa Mayor Monroe Nichols launched a housing tracker today to show progress towards adding 6,000 affordable units by 2028—tracking 443 new units, including 63 affordable ones since he took office on Dec. 2, 2024. The tracker may soon add data on over 1,200 active housing permits—along with input from a request for information that received 55 responses outlining 137 planned projects. FOX 23
- ➤ Governor Kevin Stitt signed Lauria and Ashley’s Law today, which requires people convicted as accessories to first or second degree murder to serve 85% of their sentence before being eligible for parole (current convicts must serve at least 85%). Lawmakers said the bill was introduced after a 2020 case raised concerns about early release (House Bill 1001 honors victims Lauria Bible and Ashley Freeman). FOX 23
- ➤ A bill to require reports of sexual misconduct in juvenile facilities now awaits the governor's signature. Authored by Rep. Danny Williams and Sen. Dave Rader, the measure mandates that staff in state facilities report any abuse — failure to do so can trigger felony charges and fines. FOX 23
