COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Owasso High School hosted a grand send-off on May 14 for its 200 Special Olympics athletes as they departed for the 56th Special Olympics Summer Games in Stillwater; students and staff lined the hallways with cheers and handmade signs.  News On 6
  • The Black Wall Street Rally kicks off today in Historic Greenwood District and runs through May 17, closing Greenwood Avenue for guided tours, concerts, food trucks, and educational sessions that honor Black culture and history — Tulsa natives organize the event as it also features a golf classic designed to raise funds for underrepresented junior golfers. Expanded sessions on economic empowerment add to the community focus of the rally.  News On 6

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Federal housing aid in Tulsa is at risk as a proposed 2026 budget may slash rental assistance by 40 percent — a move that could end Section 8 vouchers for over 10,000 locals. The Tulsa Housing Authority warns that if 835 vouchers are lost, about 2,000 people will face harder housing challenges, and it urges residents to contact lawmakers soon.  KTUL

HEALTH NEWS

  • PAM Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Tulsa introduced Vivistim, an FDA-approved device for chronic stroke care, during a free screening event held Wednesday for stroke survivors and caregivers. The event showed how the device uses Paired VNS therapy—paired with rehabilitation—to help patients rebuild hand and arm function.  FOX 23
  • One year after Richard Johnston was found dead in the courtyard of Prairie House Assisted Living on May 10, 2024, questions remain over how he left a locked memory unit — staff did not notice him missing from 10 p.m. until he was found at 6 a.m. A lawsuit has been filed alleging negligence by Prairie House Assisted Living and Memory Care and Legend Senior Living.  KTUL
  • Ability Resources is offering free Tai Chi workshops for adults 60 and older in Tulsa, Osage, and Creek counties to help improve balance and reduce fall risk. The 8- to 10-week sessions will be held twice a week for one hour and will begin in July; interested participants can call 918-592-1235 for registration.  News On 6
  • Viola Mother Fletcher, the oldest living survivor of the Tulsa Race Massacre who turned 111 on May 10, got a new set of custom dentures from Secure Dentures and Implants for its Smiles for Your Service program. Her private presentation on May 13 in Tulsa was attended by family members—who said the dentures will boost her comfort and quality of life—honoring her long legacy of resilience.  News On 6
  • A Tulsa firefighter's family is asking for donations to help with home expenses while their 5-year-old son (Everett) receives treatment for B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital; his treatment phase (expected to last 4-6 weeks) began in April.  FOX 23
