  • Coffee Bunker partnered with Loads of Love Laundry on Friday to provide free laundry services for veterans and their families at a local site. The effort supports the nonprofit's ongoing commitment to help local veterans transition smoothly after their service.  FOX 23

CULTURE NEWS

  • Tulsa will honor music manager Jim Halsey with a tribute concert on June 2 that celebrates his six decades in country music and his Touring Lifetime Achievement Award from the Country Music Association.  News On 6
  • Boley Rodeo rides again for Memorial Day weekend, celebrating the legacy of the Black Cowboy with car shows, parades and art displays. Today, between 12,000 and 15,000 people gather in Boley at (9:00 a.m.) for a festive start with local food trucks lining the streets.  News On 6
  • The Tulsa community honored Bobby Eaton Sr.'s legacy during a memorial service in north Tulsa where local residents gathered to remember his contributions.  FOX 23
  • Bob Berchell (grandson of Route 66 founder Cyrus Avery) will serve as Grand Marshal at Tulsa’s Route 66 Capital Cruise Parade on May 30. Over 4,000 classic cars are expected to participate as the event aims to break a world record and honor his ties from Santa Monica to Tulsa.  News On 6

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Yesterday, eighteen Tulsa Tech criminal justice students were sworn in by the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office after a tornado forced the program off its North Peoria campus + they now train at the Broken Arrow campus where one graduate called the ceremony a lifelong dream come true.  News On 6

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Heavy rain on Friday caused flooding in Collinsville — Jojo’s Café sustained about two inches of water damage and closed for cleanup with reopening planned Tuesday, while barricades on roads and a stalled vehicle prompted officials to urge drivers to avoid flooded areas.  News On 6

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Kevin Stitt signed the Blake Burgess Act, which requires hospitals, surgical centers, and assisted living facilities to develop protocols and train nonphysician staff to identify patients at risk for VTE. The law (named for the 21-year-old who died from a pulmonary embolism) will take effect July 1.  KTUL
  • Owasso officials warned drivers on Friday morning to avoid flooded roads during heavy rainfall that led to several closures. Road closures affected North Mingo and East 106th Streets, and officials reminded drivers to turn around - don't drown.  News On 6

HEALTH NEWS

  • Skillz on Wheels, a Tulsa nonprofit led by Ebony Skillens, offers free mental health support during Mental Health Awareness Month with a van visiting scheduled locations including Tulsa Health Department on Mondays, North Point on Tuesdays, UMA Tulsa on Wednesdays, Greenwood Cultural Center on Thursdays, and Telehealth on Fridays.  2 News
  • The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality urges residents visiting lakes, rivers, and streams during Memorial Day weekend to avoid stagnant water and debris-filled areas. Swimmers and families are advised to use protective gear and rinse off after swimming to reduce the risk of infections.  News On 6

  • Two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch died Thursday at 41, and Tulsa fans remember him for racing alongside his son at the Tulsa Shootout and Chili Bowl Nationals. Organizers will honor his legacy at the upcoming Tulsa Shootout in December.  News On 6
