  • Tulsa's latest Point-in-Time Count on January 22 reported 1,443 people experiencing homelessness, a six-person drop that marks the first non-increase in five years — housing advocates and city officials say sustained rehousing efforts could lead to further progress next January.  News On 6
  • Derek Bieri restored a one-of-a-kind 1971 Ford F-100 for Capital Cruise and will auction the truck tomorrow at 7 p.m. to benefit Tulsa’s Mayfest (his work included installing a Chevy engine and using rare original parts).  2 News
  • Cultivate Hair Studio in Tulsa hosts a free 'Dads do Hair' workshop today where dads learn child hair care skills (including brushing, detangling and braiding). Donations are encouraged at the event.  2 News
  • Reasor’s launched its Compassion in Action Food Drive to help families facing hunger by accepting donations, prefilled donation bags, and direct contributions at all stores statewide until June 23. Local shoppers can support nearby food banks to ease summer food insecurity.  News On 6

  • Bob Berghell, grandson of the Father of Route 66, served as a Grand Marshal at Tulsa’s Capital Cruise on May 20 to celebrate the highway’s 100-year history - he recalled his grandfather’s planning efforts that also brought fresh water to the community.  2 News
  • A vintage 1965 Ford Mustang carrying family memories will join Tulsa's Route 66 Capital Cruise Parade this weekend, plus it honors decades of celebrations spanning weddings, birthdays, and graduations.  News On 6
  • RedFork Arts Foundry is hosting Tulsa’s first Bigfoot on 66 Art Festival Sunday, May 31, from noon to 6 p.m. at 2615 W. 40th Place in the historic Red Fork District, featuring over 20 local artists, hands-on workshops, food trucks, and a Route 66 scavenger hunt.  FOX 23
  • A Tulsa woman is composing what may be the first symphony by an indigenous woman—a project spotlighting local culture today. The work is in progress and aims to honor Tulsa's rich heritage.  FOX 23

EDUCATION NEWS

  • TCC unveiled a redesigned (Route 66-inspired) six-foot fiberglass penguin on Wednesday before the Centennial Capital Cruise passed the Metro Campus, and it now stands on the corner of East 10th Street and South Cincinnati Avenue.  FOX 23

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City leaders unveiled a new ‘Welcome to Tulsa’ sign Tuesday at the Route 66 Historical Village as part of an effort to boost tourism before the centennial. A second sign is being installed near I-44 and I-244, and more may follow—Vision Tulsa provided $3.7 million for the project.  News On 6
