COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Saturday, Tulsa hosted the Guinness record-setting Route 66 Capital Cruise where drivers were asked to stage at Expo Square between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. Some who arrived after (around 11 a.m.) were turned away but will get a mailed refund, while over 3,500 classic cars set the record.  News On 6
  • On Sunday, Tulsa paused to honor victims of the 1921 massacre during the Promise and Repair service at All Souls Unitarian Church (founded just before the attack). Community leaders and descendants discussed local reparations and the city's Road to Repair initiative to preserve Greenwood’s legacy.  KTUL

CULTURE NEWS

  • Tulsa will host the 18th annual Tokyo, OK convention from June 25 to 28 at the Marriott Tulsa Southern Hills & Ruffin Event Center. The event will showcase Japanese culture with 500 hours of anime, pop culture, music and fashion programs – including a charity ball for The Pencil Box.  KTUL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tulsa Public Schools wrapped up the school year and will boost learning next year — Superintendent Dr. Ebony Johnson detailed plans for bond-funded upgrades, summer classes, free in-school driver’s education and Oklahoma’s Promise to help cover tuition for most students.  News On 6
  • Tulsa Public Schools started the Summer Cafes program on June 1 to provide free breakfast and lunch for kids under 18 at several school sites until July 30. Director Kyle Boone said the program will help families facing food insecurity & ensure children are fed over the summer.  2 News
  • The University of Oklahoma Polytechnic Institute will soon launch its Cybersecurity Clinic using a $1 million grant from Google to offer cybersecurity risk assessments for local small manufacturers, nonprofits and tribal businesses. The initiative will provide students with hands-on, faculty-supervised learning while building community resilience.  KTUL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fully autonomous semi trucks will soon test on major highways like I-35 and I-40 under OHP oversight as troopers train to manage safety protocols & review new camera systems that can detect small obstacles up to 600 meters away. The trucks will be deployed only on key routes per state law.  News On 6
  • The Public Service Company of Oklahoma began work Monday on a street lighting project along South Mingo Avenue (between East 81st and East 91st) to improve visibility and safety; drivers face lane closures until June 12.  KTUL

  • The Oklahoma Medical Reserve Corps is offering free seminars on heat illness and insect bites tomorrow at James O Goodwin Health Center Auditorium, with virtual options available from 2:30 to 4:00 (p.m.) and 6:00 to 8:00 (p.m.).  2 News
