COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Billy and Tina, two Asian elephants that arrived from Los Angeles in May, are now in quarantine at Tulsa Zoo as they adjust to their new home—visitors will see them by mid-June.  2 News
  • A Tulsa grocery store, Oasis Fresh Market, launched Oasis Summer Cafe to offer free breakfast and lunch to children in need this summer. The program started Monday, June 2 and will run through Aug. 8 at the market on N. Peoria Ave.—providing meals when school programs are not in session.  News On 6

CRIME NEWS

  • Tulsa police said on June 1 that a man named Parker Grayson Brown was killed after ambushing officers near Eisenhower International School, and he was due in court on June 11 for a DUI arrest while he had faced charges in 2016 (including an attempted arson incident).  2 News
  • Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler requested that Judge Sharon Holmes be recused from the murder trial of Noe Cruz after she held a private conversation with the defendant and relaxed his house arrest conditions—raising concerns about the trial's fairness.  FOX 23
  • On Sunday evening, Tulsa police responded to a shooting near 56th and Harvard and encountered an armed suspect who ambushed officers and fired at nearby pedestrians—after a short chase, officers returned fire and fatally shot the suspect while one jogger received medical aid.  KTUL
  • The Better Business Bureau warned Tulsa residents to ignore fake Apple billing texts that claim an iCloud account was used for an unauthorized California charge and urge a call for help—residents are told to log into their accounts or forward the texts as spam—scammers aim to steal personal information.  FOX 23

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tulsa Mayor Monroe Nichols announced the Greenwood Trust to invest $105M in North Tulsa by funding affordable housing, historic preservation, and education projects. Seth Bryant, a descendant of a Tulsa Race Massacre victim, said the plan—overdue for change—offers a chance to bring justice and improve life in the Greenwood community.  News On 6

  • The city hosted the Crybaby Climb relay event with first responders at Crybaby Hill—kicking off the Tulsa Tough bike race, with official races set to begin on June 6 at around 4 p.m. Residents said they are excited for the upcoming event that promotes healthy living.  2 News
