CRIME NEWS

  • Tulsa police investigated a deadly crash on Darlington Ave on June 6 at 9:30 p.m. in which a blue sedan turning south collided with a silver Camaro traveling east on 41st St & killed 21-year-old Spencer Roberts, while the Camaro driver suffered a foot injury and was expected to recover.  KTUL
  • Death row inmate John Hanson, convicted of kidnapping and murdering Mary Bowles in 1999, had his effort to delay execution denied by the Oklahoma State Court of Criminal Appeals—his execution is set for tomorrow at 10 a.m. in McAlester.  News On 6
  • Investigative reporter Janna Clark found that illegal trash dumping in Tulsa neighborhoods raised cleanup costs for residents—causing local fees to increase.  FOX 23
  • Tulsa Police arrested Scotter Clark on Tuesday, June 10th, accusing him of soliciting a woman for sex—then stabbing a man who confronted him and hitting the woman with his truck near 31st and Sheridan, and he now faces two counts of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon.  News On 6

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Tulsa Arts Commission approved a plan for a 66-foot dinosaur statue to be placed in Howard Park along Southwest Boulevard near Interstate 244. The statue will be built by the creators behind popular local landmarks — funding is partly secured and construction is expected to begin before Route 66’s 100th anniversary next year.  News On 6
  • Miss Oklahoma Tessa Dorrell was crowned on Sunday at Rose State College — she is now preparing for the Miss America pageant in September. She joined News 9 on Tuesday to discuss her win, wardrobe prep plans, and her initiative to visit local schools.  News On 6

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Tulsa District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers expects water levels at Keystone Lake to keep rising, which has led Jellystone Park to close its campsites through June 24 and remove its aquapark. Beth Ryan said the water already covers the boat ramp and dock and may soon rise above the stop sign—while pools, slides and picnic areas stay open with adjusted hours.  FOX 23

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After Tulsa firefighters were shot at near 61st and Harvard (June 1), Fire Chief Michael Baker said the attack showed a growing trend in violence against first responders that calls for extra training and closer teamwork with police and EMS. He also warned that the new Zinc Lake kayak course can be very dangerous for untrained swimmers (it is meant for trained users only).  News On 6
  • The Oklahoma Insurance Department launched the second phase of its Strengthen Oklahoma Homes Program to give homeowners up to $10,000 for roof upgrades designed to better resist high winds and hail — applicants must apply online and ensure their home is in good repair, with any costs above the grant covered by the homeowner.  KTUL
