COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Tulsa will mark Pride Month with an Equality Gala on June 14 and a bar crawl on June 21—events that promote equality and inclusion. The month-long celebration culminates with the 25th annual Tulsa Pride Parade, which will start at 4 p.m. in historic Downtown Tulsa and end at the Dennis R. Neill Equality Center—bringing the community together around diversity.  KTUL
  • After a decade of bringing Tulsa closer to the Arkansas River, Tulsa’s Great Raft Race will finish on August 16 at River Parks East Bank. The final event, Raft Race Sails into the Sunset — with food trucks, music, and community floats — will celebrate a revived tradition that began in 2015.  KTUL
  • The City of Tulsa held its fifth Children's Naturalization Ceremony at the Gathering Place last Thursday as 30 children from 18 countries took their oaths. The event featured Girl Scouts presenting colors + musical entertainment by the Sistema Tulsa Community Youth Orchestra and a keynote address by Deputy Mayor Krystal Reyes.  FOX 23

CRIME NEWS

  • Oklahoma executed death row inmate John Fitzgerald Hanson by lethal injection on June 12th—he was convicted in a 1999 carjacking that killed Tulsa woman Mary Bowles and Jerald Thurman nearly 26 years ago.  FOX 23

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Tuesday, Governor Stitt signed three education bills that lengthen the school year and expand teacher salary schedules, allow school staff to earn teacher certification with matching funds, and allocate $1 million for early math testing and additional instruction (with clear rules for school day counts and teacher training). The laws set specific guidelines and will soon take effect.  FOX 23

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Kevin Stitt signed HB 2758, which creates the Preserving and Advancing County Transportation Fund — designed to repair structurally deficient bridges and roads in Tulsa County — by directing revenue from a lower natural gas exit tax starting July 1. Counties must submit project proposals to secure funding as the state works to rebuild key infrastructure.  2 News
  • City officials confirmed work at 91st and Riverside will start June 16 — crews will replace pavement, improve drainage and close outer lanes for two weeks while inner lanes will be closed from June 30 until mid-July. Officials said a February crash prompted the project — it killed two Holland Hall students.  FOX 23
  • The City of Tulsa will start a two-phase improvement project at East 91st Street and South Riverside Drive on June 16 to replace the pavement, improve drainage and strengthen the roadway at the site where a fatal crash occurred on Feb. 13—phase one will close the outer lanes for two weeks and phase two will close the inner lanes beginning June 30 until construction finishes by mid-July.  News On 6
