  • Community leaders and residents gathered at Historic Vernon AME Church in Greenwood on June 26th for a prayer vigil and rally after recent violence. Mayor Monroe Nichols, Reverend Keith Mayes, Dr. Ebony Johnson and Tammye Randle spoke on the need for youth programs and the upcoming free mental health sessions via a mobile support RV—an effort to promote healing and prevent further harm.  News On 6

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Midtown Hardware in Tulsa, which has served the community for 46 years, will close for good on July 2 due to costly repairs from flood damage and rising online competition — owner DJ Day said he plans to take a vacation after the closing and frequent shoppers expressed sadness over losing a trusted neighborhood store.  News On 6

CRIME NEWS

  • Vanessa Hall-Harper, Tulsa Juneteenth Festival Co-Founder and District 1 City Councilor, said she is heartbroken over the tragic shooting Saturday night that killed one person and injured seven—officials are now reviewing the event's security, which included over 40 personnel, to help keep the community safe.  KTUL
  • Deputies in Turley responded early this morning around 1:30 a.m. to a report that a woman was dragged from an SUV during a fight and later located the vehicle at the 8700 block of N. Delaware using a drone — they arrested 36-year-old Keith Holmes for kidnapping and other charges and his 67-year-old mother for allegedly trying to influence the victim’s account.  KTUL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A fireworks stand run by Jake’s is operating at 40th and Yale in midtown Tulsa on restricted Indian land—city rules against fireworks do not apply here. The Tulsa Fire Marshal warned that while the stand may have a permit from the Muscogee Nation, possessing fireworks in city limits remains illegal and can lead to a $220 fine.  FOX 23
  • On June 26th, Tulsa Fire Department warned residents that illegal fireworks can cause fires, injuries and fines (up to $200) as the Fourth of July nears, urging citizens to opt for approved professional displays.  News On 6
  • Nex Benedict’s mom is suing Owasso Public Schools, saying the department ignored bullying reports that led to her child's death—an 18-page lawsuit seeking damages and policy changes to prevent similar tragedies in the future.  2 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Cherokee Nation principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. signed the Cherokee Nation Claremore Outpatient and Emergency Health Center Act on April 26th in Tahlequah, approving $255.5 million for a new facility in Claremore. The tribe will take over operations from the Indian Health Service in October and the new center is set to open in 2027 — the plan also boosts the existing facility with an $11 million upgrade.  KTUL
  • Yesterday, Great Plains Recovery Center held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its new facility at 7210 South Yale Avenue in Tulsa, opening a 74-bed center with over 80 employees to treat substance abuse. Tulsa Mayor Monroe Nichols attended the event—he said the new center will provide local, medically supervised care for those in need.  FOX 23
