COMMUNITY NEWS

  • 918 Boats and Operation Wakesurf—local partners—will host the second annual 'Salute 2 Service' event on Skiatook Lake from July 16–18 to honor first responders, active-duty military and veterans with watersports and time to unwind. Thirty selected participants will ride top-tier boats for wake surfing and wakeboarding during this three-day event.  News On 6

CRIME NEWS

  • Paul Allen, the former volunteer treasurer for Oklahomans for Equality, pleaded guilty on July 8th to embezzling over $130,000 from the group — he received a 7-year deferred sentence and must pay $60,000 in restitution — after an earlier arrest.  FOX 23

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Northeastern State University partnered with the University of Tulsa to host a free two-day cybersecurity camp for middle schoolers on the NSU-Broken Arrow campus where students learn about coding and online safety. TU will host a summer camp from July 14-18 with a registration deadline on July 10.  FOX 23
  • The Opp Project started summer learning programs on July 8th to help Tulsa students avoid falling behind during the school break, working with Tulsa Public Schools and local groups to offer hands-on activities + experiences at spots like Global Gardens and the Tulsa Zoo. These programs are set to keep students engaged and ready for the next school year.  News On 6

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today the Muscogee Nation marks the fifth anniversary of the McGirt decision by declaring Muscogee Creek Sovereignty Day—tribal leaders held a ceremony and established a time capsule to document the ruling’s impact on tribal governance—and most government offices remain closed for the holiday.  FOX 23
  • Drivers near 36th Street North and Mingo Road may face delays this week as crews work on a new bridge deck; the city will resume work on July 10 with the project expected to finish by July 15.
