COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A Tulsa nonprofit received a USTA Wheelchair Tennis Grassroots Grant to boost its ten adaptive sports programs, including a wheelchair tennis program that uses two bounces and a wheelchair. Anthony Meadows, who oversees the center’s programs, said the grant will let the group reach new participants (from kids to adults) eager to build balance and health through adaptive sports.  FOX 23
  • Tulsa organization Heroes Hope helps unhoused veterans with safe housing, food, and job help in a program run by veterans—supporting people like Roy Burns, who now lives in his own apartment. The nonprofit plans to grow its services—aiming to help more veterans overcome the challenges of homelessness.  FOX 23

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Tulsa International Airport celebrated the grand opening of its new Escape Lounge today, offering chef-curated food, complimentary drinks and locally brewed beer from American Solera for travelers from any airline. The lounge is free for some credit card holders while others pay a fee—this marks the first amenity of its kind in Oklahoma and is part of plans to enhance customer experience.  FOX 23

CULTURE NEWS

  • A new docu-dramedy titled I've Been Blessed By Evan Hughes explores Tulsa's comedy scene by following local comedian Evan Hughes and will premiere Monday, July 14 at the Circle Cinema Film Festival—featuring local interviews and a Q&A session after the screening. The film was shot in Tulsa in 2024 and is expected to highlight the eclectic talent of the local arts community.  News On 6
  • Paul McCartney will perform his 'Got Back' tour at the BOK Center in Tulsa on October 22, and ticket sales begin at 10 a.m. on July 18—AEG Presents confirmed the event in an early announcement.  KTUL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tulsa Public Schools hosted a hiring fair yesterday at its maintenance facility—running from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.—to fill nearly 90 open positions including 15 to 20 transportation jobs, 30 maintenance roles, and 40 child nutrition positions before the school year begins.  FOX 23

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Keith Stitt — Governor Kevin Stitt’s brother and Cherokee citizen — asked the U.S. Supreme Court to review tribal jurisdiction after he was ticketed for speeding in Tulsa in February 2021. His lawyer filed the petition on July 7 after the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals upheld the arrest and judgment in March, arguing that the state has undermined the Supreme Court’s 2020 McGirt ruling.  FOX 23
  • Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond asked a federal judge to fine poultry companies for polluting the Illinois River and to limit waste from spreading on lands that drain into the river. The proposed judgement will fine firms $10,000 per day when laws are broken and name a special master to oversee soil cleanup.  FOX 23

  • More than 10,000 Tulsa tenants using rental assistance face eviction as the housing authority halts rent increase approvals due to federal funding cuts — landlords seek to raise rents while tenants like Sylvia Aguilar in North Tulsa already received notice to vacate by early August. The authority warns that further 40% federal budget cuts could worsen the crisis for thousands in our community.  KTUL
