  • Domestic Violence Intervention Services held its first Faith Leaders Summit in Tulsa to teach local faith leaders how to help domestic abuse survivors. The agency said the event builds bonds with trusted community figures to reach more people in need.  FOX 23

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A man died in east Tulsa after a car going over 90 mph crashed into a building near 15th Street and Sheridan—police say the car caught fire, a passenger died, and the driver, believed to be intoxicated, suffered a broken leg and is at St. Johns Hospital.  FOX 23

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Big Dipper Creamery is celebrating National Ice Cream Day by introducing six new locally sourced flavors made with ingredients from Oklahoma farms — the new offerings will be available Sunday from noon to 9 p.m. at Tulsa-area locations.  News On 6
  • Tulsa Regional Tourism and the Big Dam Party were named finalists for a national travel award from the U.S. Travel Association for promoting Tulsa’s new public spaces—this honor comes after the 2024 Big Dam Party that introduced Zink Lake, Tulsa Wave Park and the Williams Crossing pedestrian bridge. Winners will be announced Aug. 18 in Phoenix.  News On 6

CRIME NEWS

  • Skiatook Paws and Claws is asking the community for help after rescuing over 400 Maltese dogs from a Stroud business where the owner now faces a Cruelty To Animals charge—Tulsa Humane Society is caring for most of the dogs while donations and volunteers are needed at both facilities.  FOX 23
  • Tulsa Police arrested Blevin Williams, Jr. on Thursday, July 17 for felony murder in connection with the 2018 homicide at Candlewood Suites near 71st and Highway 169—detectives built a case after linking his involvement to key phone evidence from the earlier arrest of Kristopher Thompson.  KTUL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Gaining Ground celebrated one year of its Book Bus service aimed at stopping the summer slide—where students lose reading progress—with 6,000 books handed out last summer. The bus now serves 500 Tulsa kids weekly by visiting neighborhoods near seven partner schools on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, offering books and essential supplies.  FOX 23

  • Local doctors in Tulsa warn that snake bites can quickly cause serious tissue damage as more snakes become active outdoors, and they advise anyone bitten to immediately clean the wound and seek emergency care. Chief of Staff Bo Burns at Hillcrest Medical Center emphasizes that fast treatment is crucial to prevent further injury.  FOX 23
