COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Food Bank of Eastern OK is serving free nutritious meals for kids at mobile eatery sites in 24 counties this summer; meal deliveries began in late May and the program aims to serve 500,000 meals to children 18 and under—offering a camp-like setting where kids can enjoy a nutritious meal.  FOX 23
  • Skiatook Paws and Claws Animal Rescue raised more than $140,000 in donations after reporting nearly $50,000 in debt and running out of space for new animals—local leaders say this community support helped ease a financial crisis. They now ask residents to foster or adopt animals to relieve shelter overcrowding—efforts to improve the adoption process are underway.  News On 6

  • Frontier Airlines is returning to Tulsa International Airport on October 12 and will begin nonstop flights to Denver twice a week. The carrier last served Tulsa in March 2022 and will offer fares as low as $39 — a welcome travel option for local residents.  FOX 23

CRIME NEWS

  • Angel Ibarra — a 19-year-old arrested in Mexico for an ambush shooting in east Tulsa that killed two teens and injured two others in February — is back in Tulsa to face charges of two counts of first degree murder and two counts of shooting with intent to kill.  FOX 23

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Oklahoma school districts including Tulsa Public Schools now require students to keep phones off during class as SB 139 goes into effect — the law allows exceptions for emergencies and documented medical needs — while officials say the move will reduce distractions and cyberbullying.  News On 6

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Tulsa is set to pay $500,000 to settle a discrimination lawsuit filed by two high ranking Tulsa Fire Department women—Greta Hurt and Julie Lynn—who claimed less experienced male colleagues were promoted over them. A trial for the remaining promotion discrimination claim will begin on August 11 while the settlement covers damages and attorney fees.  FOX 23

HEALTH NEWS

  • Ascension St. John achieved Tulsa’s first Level I Trauma Center status, upgrading its trauma care from Level II to serve the most critical injuries around the clock—boosting local emergency care— as the facility now offers faster, comprehensive treatment without needing to fly patients out.  KTUL

  • At SEC Media Days held yesterday, July 22nd, Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer said he was ready for the SEC's challenges — and opportunities as he prepared to lead the Sooners in his first season.
