  • Tulsa community mourns Detective John Brown, a 35-year veteran of the Tulsa Police Department who passed away after a long career in various units including homicide and undercover work. He was admired for his bravery and is survived by his wife, three children, and five grandchildren + colleagues who honor his commitment to justice.  KTUL
  • Gravity Bear Bouldering Gym opened its doors this weekend in Tulsa’s East Village—featuring 3,000 feet of climbing walls for all skill levels and a cafe. Founder Parker Simms said thick pads protect climbers’ falls and make bouldering safe—ensuring the venue welcomes beginners and experts alike.  News On 6

CRIME NEWS

  • Tulsa police arrested a man wanted in Missouri on Monday, August 4th after he allegedly attacked a woman on a city bus at the downtown bus station by cutting her throat—witnesses noted blood on his shirt, collar and knife and authorities said he will be extradited for domestic assault charges.  News On 6
  • A man accused of kidnapping, beating and sexually assaulting a woman was taken into custody today after an overnight standoff with Tulsa police near 11th Street+120th East Avenue, where officers responded to a domestic assault report and the victim received medical treatment.  News On 6
  • Former NFL player Leshon Eugene Johnson, 54, was convicted last week on six felony counts for running a dog fighting and trafficking operation in Broken Arrow—190 dogs were seized and he faces up to five years in prison per count before sentencing is scheduled.  KTUL

  • Tulsa teen Jackson Ballinger beat childhood apraxia by combining speech therapy with debate practice and won the 5A State Policy Debate Championship with his brother Lucas on August 4—ending his need for speech therapy. He now speaks clearly—showing that persistent practice made a real difference.  News On 6

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • At today's Wagoner City Council meeting, councilor Nate Wilson disputed a city report that the wastewater plant met testing standards after activist Tonya Sappington was removed for asking about wastewater leaking into a creek that flows into the Verdigris, while the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality said it will reassess the issue if it is not fixed by August 7—raising concerns over environmental safety.  KTUL

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local pediatrician Dr. Jeffrey Rice warned that whooping cough is dangerous for young children if they are not vaccinated before school starts. The CDC reported that nonmedical exemptions are rising — a trend driven by vaccine hesitancy that puts kids, especially infants, at increased risk during fall and winter.  FOX 23
