  • Tulsa Animal Welfare at 3031 N Erie Ave is taking part in the Clear the Shelters event this month to help find homes for shelter pets as the facility remains at capacity. The national campaign runs through Aug. 31 and waives adoption fees while including free spay/neuter services, vaccinations, a microchip and a one-year pet license — 273 pets were adopted in 2024.  KTUL
  • After a deadly house fire near West 1st Street and South Phoenix Avenue injured two and claimed one life on July 31, the Tulsa Fire Department activated its 'After the Fire' program—sending five companies door-to-door to install smoke alarms and share fire safety tips.  FOX 23

  • Kristi Burris went from tap dancing on national stages to opening her ice cream shop, Cherry and Bark, in Tulsa after an accidental ice cream maker purchase changed her life. She opened the store near 18th and Boston in October 2024 and uses local ingredients from Stillwell & Boynton to create unique flavors.  News On 6

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tulsa leaders detailed Safe Move Tulsa, a plan that will invest $6 million to house at least 300 homeless residents pending city council approval. Mayor Monroe Nichols said teams will create 12-month care plans to help people become self-sustaining—drawing on strategies seen in Denver and Houston.  2 News
  • Tulsa City Council proposed a plan called Safe Move Tulsa today to rehouse unsheltered residents using nearly $4,367,700 from federal relief funds—this initiative follows a recent effort where the city placed boulders downtown to deter overnight camping. The council will vote on the plan on August 20th to help move people from shelters to permanent housing.  KTUL

HEALTH NEWS

  • Riley Howard with EMSA explained on August 6th at 12:32 p.m. that Tulsa’s new Level 1 Trauma Center at Ascension St. John marks a major upgrade for emergency care and first responders. The new center is expected to improve pre-hospital care for patients throughout the region.  News On 6
