ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • One person drowned at Zink Lake in Tulsa on Saturday, August 16th after emergency crews pulled the victim from the water following nearly an hour of searching—officials confirmed the death at the scene.  News On 6
  • A car and a MetroLink Tulsa bus crashed near 1st Street and Utica on Saturday morning with both drivers telling Tulsa Police they had green lights—no injuries were reported.  FOX 23

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Southwest Airlines will end its nonstop Tulsa—St. Louis flights on March 6 as part of a route restructuring and will add nonstop Tulsa—Chicago and Tulsa—Nashville flights later.  News On 6

CRIME NEWS

  • On August 16, Tulsa police responded to a shooting near 36th and Yale where two people were shot inside a vehicle—one woman later died and the other remains in critical condition as investigators search for a suspect in a red sports car.  2 News
  • A Wagoner County man pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 35 years in prison on August 16th for setting a mattress on fire that killed his grandfather in March 2023 — he later told investigators that voices in his head told him to do it.  News On 6

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On August 15th, Pete Reed launched a statewide tour to honor Native American veterans and raise funds for a historic monument at the Capitol. The tour—named Season of the Warrior Campaign—will visit 100 Oklahoma communities starting August 18th and aims to gather $2.5 million from local supporters.  News On 6
  • Metrolink Tulsa will hold public meetings next week to share details on service changes coming later this month that aim to improve reliability and rider experience—one meeting is scheduled for Monday at Denver Avenue station from 4—5 p.m. while further schedules for Tuesday and Wednesday will be announced.  News On 6
  • The City of Jenks Veterans Advisory Council will hold an official dedication ceremony for the new Purple Heart Garden at 10 a.m. at Veterans Park in downtown Jenks — the garden will feature commemorative plaques, native landscaping, and a pathway lined with purple-hued flowers.  FOX 23
