  • Tulsa County Parks extended its hours on Monday, August 18 to better serve community recreation and wellness as all centers now operate seven days a week. Buddy LaFortune and South County Recreation Centers are open Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.—Chandler Park and O’Brien Recreation Centers run daily from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  KTUL

  • Justine Pinales, a Tulsa grandmother, is mourning her grandson Jawaun Jordan, who drowned at Zink Lake when he slipped off a boulder while spending time with family—emergency crews responded shortly after his fall.  2 News

CRIME NEWS

  • A Tulsa man, Elga Harper, is facing a new trial after his life sentence for raping and brutally beating a 73-year-old nun in her home was overturned last October by an appeals court—police and prosecutors showed body camera video and photos as evidence.  News On 6

CULTURE NEWS

  • Teresa Knox published a coffee table book that tells the 110-year story of Tulsa’s Church Studio—showing its change from a neighborhood church to Leon Russell’s recording studio and now a cultural landmark. The book is available for purchase online and at the studio gift shop while an audiobook version will be released in October.  News On 6

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tulsa City Councilors will vote on a $6 million plan tomorrow to fight homelessness by moving opioid settlement and American Rescue Plan funds to the Safe Move Tulsa program. The plan aims to rehome 300 people in nine months as shelters reach full capacity—Mayor Nichols said the effort targets a pressing city need.  FOX 23
