  • A Home to Inherit campaign aims to buy a lifelong home for 111-year-old Tulsa Race Massacre survivor Mother Viola Ford Fletcher, who lives in a small senior living facility with another survivor. The group plans to raise $1M for the home, in-home care, and medical equipment — and has already gathered over $3,000 to give Fletcher the dignity of her own home.  News On 6
  • The East Tulsa Senior Community Festival will be held Saturday, August 23 at noon at YMCA East, 12150 E. 11th St, and will provide live entertainment, dancing + bingo with prizes, a fitness session, food and 200 grocery boxes for the first 200 seniors.  News On 6

CRIME NEWS

  • Tulsa Police arrested Mark Burleson in Ponca City on Tuesday for allegedly shooting and killing 32-year-old Heather Martinez near 36th and Yale on Saturday—witnesses reported a red car leaving the scene while a man sustained serious injuries and the FBI investigates due to Burleson’s tribal affiliation.  News On 6

CULTURE NEWS

  • On August 19th, six art pieces under I-244 near Greenwood in downtown Tulsa were completed after more than five years of work. The installations include murals and light shows that honor past events and support the district's revitalization & have backing from local leaders.  News On 6

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Tuesday, August 19th, Eugene Field Elementary provided students with donated clothes, shoes, and hygiene supplies from its clothing closet to remove learning barriers—showing strong community support. The program, now in its tenth year, continues to help students start school with confidence.  News On 6

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, Tulsa launched its first Office of Health and Well-being with $260,000 in multi-year funding from Community Care and the George Kaiser Family Foundation to improve health by connecting care, education, and public safety — the office will soon create a Health Coalition and appoint Chief Health Officer Dr. Jabraan Pasha to address local disparities.  KTUL
