COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local nonprofit City Lights Foundation helps Tulsans find housing and keep it by preventing evictions through landlord—tenant mediation and affordable payment plans. In the last six months, the program prevented 17 evictions and moved six people into stable homes.  KTUL

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said US-62 in Muskogee County between West 33rd and West 43rd streets was closed after a crash that claimed two lives.  KTUL

CRIME NEWS

  • Two suspects were arrested late Saturday in east Tulsa after they robbed victims at gunpoint near Highway 169 — officers located their Nissan on 129th East Avenue and recovered three semi-automatic pistols, an AK-style pistol, and cash matching the stolen amount.  KTUL
  • Tulsa police launched a homicide investigation after a woman found a man's body with signs of blood near a trail by 900 N. Greenwood Avenue Sunday morning—shell casings were found on the site and the victim's identity remains unreleased.  News On 6

CULTURE NEWS

  • Hundreds joined ACTION's workshop at Fellowship Lutheran Church on Sunday—this event explained the immigrant experience and debunked common myths while urging attendees to write letters to lawmakers. The next session is set for September 20 at Church of Saint Mary's.  FOX 23

SPORTS NEWS

  • Local college players and NFL rookies shone in preseason games as Bixby and OSU standout Brennan Presley gained 164 receiving yards for the Rams and OU’s Drake Stoops scored a touchdown, while Claremore native Quentin Skinner recorded 116 yards and a touchdown for the Jets. The final roster cutdown will occur Tuesday, August 26 at 4 p.m. ET (Ollie Gordon II also posted notable numbers for the Dolphins).  News On 6
  • Big 12 football kicks off this week with all 16 teams playing, including Oklahoma State, which is set to host UT Martin at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 28—part of a schedule that features five Power 4 matchups and a new TNT Sports game on Saturday.
