COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, the City of Tulsa unveiled its first District and Heritage signs to honor Greek Americans in a ceremony led by Deputy Mayor Krystal Reyes at the corner of 12th Street and Guthrie Avenue — parking is available behind Fire Station 4. The signs will remain for 10 years and guide visitors on Greek Street as part of a program started in 2024.  KTUL
  • Students and staff placed nearly 3,000 flags at Jenks High School to honor 9/11 victims on September 11—Jenks Mayor Cody Box and a high school student described the event to FOX23.  FOX 23
  • The Port Harbor Dash will take place on Sept. 20 at Tulsa Port of Catoosa and will feature a 5K, 10K and Family Fun Run that will raise funds for local manufacturing education programs. This second-year event returns after a COVID pause—bringing the community together at a scenic port and offering free tours and career fairs for students.  News On 6
  • On Thursday morning, Tulsa's 9th Annual Memorial Stair Climb honored 9/11 heroes as firefighters and police climbed 110 flights at First Place Tower downtown; participants carried names and photos of fallen first responders and raised funds for Hydrants of Hope to support families with children battling cancer.  News On 6

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • After a crash near Glenpool’s football stadium killed a 9-year-old student and injured several others, Sen. Todd Gollihare and Rep. Chris Banning announced extra patrols and temporary warning devices on Highway67 during school traffic times—while they ask for community input to guide a long-term safety study.  KTUL

ECONOMY NEWS

  • On Wednesday, September 11th, Tulsa leaders and innovators gathered at Collab2025 to share plans for making the city a global leader in drones—discussing the $51 million Tech Hub and nearly a quarter billion dollars in federal funds that boost technology testing and new partnerships. This event highlighted Tulsa's growing role in the innovation economy.  News On 6

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Owasso Public Schools announced that five seniors from Owasso High School were named National Merit Scholar semifinalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation+this honor shows their academic dedication. They will now compete for a share of 6,930 scholarships valued at nearly $26 million+final winners will be selected in February.  FOX 23
  • Jenks Public Schools announced that 11 students from Jenks High School have been named National Merit semifinalists—each will compete for nearly $26 million in scholarships next spring.  FOX 23

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, Tulsa launched a new graffiti removal program funded by a $250,000 grant from the Department of Justice—contractors have removed graffiti from over 40 properties and plan to clean more than 100 additional sites through September until 2026.  KTUL
  • Residents at Parkview Terrace Apartments were upset when the Tulsa Housing Authority told them to remove their window A/C units as a fire safety measure with temperatures set to rise into the 90’s—one resident said her family had been without A/C on the second floor for a week.  FOX 23
  • The Oklahoma Supreme Court upheld Governor Kevin Stitt's executive order that requires state employees to return to the office—reversing the remote-work policy set during the COVID-19 pandemic.  FOX 23

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Matthew Sharp from Parkside Psychiatric Clinic said violent social media content can hurt children by making them feel scared and worried (graphic videos like shootings and bombings fuel anxiety) and may limit their time playing with friends (this added stress can affect their daily lives).  FOX 23

SPORTS NEWS

  • Tulsa head coach Tre Lamb said that if injured starter Kirk Francis remains out, backup quarterback Baylor Hayes may start against Navy, following a strong performance with over 155 yards and two touchdowns (he knows Lamb's offense from ETSU). The team will play on Saturday night at 7 p.m. at Chapman Stadium.  News On 6
