  • Today, Tulsa launches its first Tech Week—showcasing the city’s fast-growing tech scene and drawing interest from local innovators who plan to expand their services in the near future.  FOX 23

CULTURE NEWS

  • Former Tulsa Mayor Kathy Taylor celebrated her 70th birthday on Monday, September 22nd by leading a collaborative mural project on wood near 11th Street and Lewis Avenue that brings life to Route 66— the artwork will later be moved when the building is renovated into a hotel.  News On 6

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tulsa Public Schools approved the TPS READS Tutoring Program to help disadvantaged students improve in reading and math at 25 schools using a $3 million grant. The tutoring sessions will last 90 minutes three times a week starting October 20.  News On 6

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Tulsans raised concerns over oil sheens and orange water near HF Sinclair’s west Tulsa refinery during recent public meetings, and the company responded as FOX23 investigates the issue. A flood watch is in effect from late tonight through Wednesday morning for counties in northeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas with rainfall expected to cause minor flooding in low-lying areas.  FOX 23

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Oklahoma State Fire Marshal inspected local food trucks on Monday to help them meet a new law that lets vendors use one State Food Establishment license instead of needing city permits. Food trucks must pass an annual safety check by November 1 + they can attend an inspection event today at 1222 State Farm Boulevard from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  FOX 23
  • An audit of Tulsa's Fiscal Year 2025 Budget General Fund found that budgeted expenses exceeded revenues by $15.2 million, driven by increased compensation for city departments—such as fire, police, and legal. The audit highlighted that Tulsa's 3.65 percent sales tax is among the lower rates compared to nearby cities, prompting officials to review revenue needs for unbudgeted costs.  FOX 23
  • The Tulsa Police Academy is partnering with several universities to convert training hours into up to 45 college credit hours—helping recruits earn a bachelor’s degree in two to three years. Officer Jessica Salazar became the first graduate through the program—she has started field training with TPD as five more cadets are set to finish in October.  2 News
  • Tulsa Technology Center and Owasso Public Schools board members approved a tax incentive agreement for the Project Clydesdale data center on Monday—creating four tax incentive districts with a 25-year ad valorem tax exemption on the property. The deal follows a July 16 zoning change approval for a cybersecurity center on over 500 acres west of North Sheridan and sets initial payments of $1.5 million that will increase by one percent each year.  FOX 23
  • Interim mental health commissioner Greg Slavonic will meet Gov. Kevin Stitt to review the mental health agency’s Fiscal Year 2027 budget request amid financial struggles that forced the agency to cut 300 provider contracts—actions affecting contracts ending Oct. 1.  News On 6

  • High On A Hill Dairy Goats in Kellyville is hosting monthly Highland Cow Paint Party classes where participants will paint and enjoy time with miniature Highland cows and baby goats. Local artist Kaya Woods will lead the three-hour sessions on Sunday, September 28 from 1-4 p.m. — the class costs $50 per person and is held inside the barn.  News On 6

  • Mike Gundy held a press conference Monday at noon after Oklahoma State lost 19-12 to Tulsa—pressure mounts on his future as the Cowboys will open Big 12 play Saturday against Baylor in Stillwater.  News On 6
  • Following Tulsa's first win over Oklahoma State since 1998—its first in 27 years—coach Tre Lamb said the team must fix its red zone mistakes to better compete against strong opponents and prepare for Saturday's clash with Tulane. He also paid respects to former Appalachian State coach Shawn Clark who died Sunday after a stroke.  News On 6
