COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Glenpool holds its 47th annual Black Gold Days Festival at Black Gold Park—located at 95 W. 145th St. and Highway 75—with 64 vendors offering free parking, live entertainment, carnival rides, games and food. The festival began Friday, September 26 and continues today with foam events on Saturday and Sunday and a petting zoo available every day.  FOX 23
  • Tulsa’s Midweek Market now accepts SNAP benefits so eligible residents can buy fresh produce and goods every Wednesday at Chapman Green until Nov. 5—organizers note vendor spots are still available for the fall season.  News On 6
  • Ivy, a dog abandoned in a dumpster behind Southern Agriculture at 71st and Sheridan, died after Tulsa Animal Services and the Oklahoma Alliance for Animals examined her—finding she suffered from an ulcerated mass, dehydration, and a heart murmur.  FOX 23
  • City of Tulsa announced winners for the 918 Day Passport Challenge held last Thursday—Avery Smith, Sheena Perez and Angela Niese will each get a prize basket with free tickets, gift cards and other items. The winners will be contacted soon on how to pick up their prizes.  FOX 23

  • Made in Oklahoma has dominated the Exchange Center at the Tulsa State Fair for decades, offering fairgoers a chance to see products made in Oklahoma by local businesses. Sixth Day Snack (a Broken Arrow company) and Deep Fork Foods (from Beggs) have grown with its support and booths are open for 11 days.  FOX 23

CULTURE NEWS

  • Greenwood Rising History Center in downtown Tulsa’s historic Greenwood District debuted six interactive kiosks on September 24 that featured touchscreen timelines, slideshows, and maps—offering visitors a new way to explore the center's history.  FOX 23
  • Wine and Roses, Tulsa Garden Center’s 30th annual high-end garden party and fundraiser, was held Friday, September 26, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. in the Arboretum at Woodward Park—attendees enjoyed live music, local food and drinks, a wine pull, and a tree planting of 32 new trees that supported the Garden Center’s work.  News On 6
  • The Oklahoma Museum of Popular Culture has launched a campaign called 50 Days to Make History to raise the remaining $1.6 million needed for its museum and to honor Oklahoma's cultural legacy. The campaign started on Friday — featuring community events and letters from local leaders — and will run until November 15.  FOX 23
  • Disney on Ice returns to Tulsa State Fair today with 'Let's Dance' — a show featuring fan favorite movies like Moana, The Little Mermaid and The Lion King that offers interactive ice-skating performances for kids. The show runs through Sunday.  FOX 23
  • The Urban Core Art Project launched its fifth temporary public art project on Thursday, September 25th in Tulsa with Assembly by artist Richard Zimmerman—an installation featuring 21 sculptures and 3 benches made from discarded plastic and metal. The art piece is on view for about a year and invites visitors to scan a QR code for details.  FOX 23

  • Leo Martinez works at Jenks Public Schools and is in charge of tasks like closing Allan Trimble Stadium after home football games—his job ranges from clearing glass to reprogramming systems. Born in Puerto Rico, he moved here to fulfill a promise to his family and now celebrates awards and his first granddaughter while planning for more success.  2 News
