CULTURE NEWS

  • On Oct. 25, the Pawnee Bill Ranch and Museum will hold ghost story candlelight tours from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.—guided tours will depart every 30 minutes with indoor options if it rains, and tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids under 18 while tours are not recommended for children under eight.  KTUL
  • Today, Greenwood Rising hosts author Kerrie Taber as she discusses her book 'Quarantining Hate' during a free Books for Thought event from 6 to 8 p.m.—audience members must RSVP online to join the conversation.  News On 6
  • Rock band Nine Inch Nails announced that Tulsa is added to their Peel It Back Tour and will perform on Feb 27 at BOK Center. Tickets go on sale Oct 8 at noon—Boys Noize will join them on stage.  KTUL
  • Officials revealed the Route 66 Capital Cruise map on Oct 1 showing plans for a classic car parade. Organizers said the event — set to span 5.5 miles — will feature more than 3,000 cars.  FOX 23
  • Discoveryland Ranch in Sand Springs plans to bring back the musical Oklahoma! but has not set an official performance date yet. A Welcome Back fundraiser on Oct. 9 is scheduled—guests will explore the renovated amphitheater and learn about future plans.  News On 6

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, Tulsa Zoo announced that its tiger Batari (born in Fresno in 2014) was transferred to Fresno Chaffee Zoo as part of the Malayan Tiger Species Survival Plan. The move creates more room for its five growing cubs and supports long-term conservation of the critically endangered species.  News On 6

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State officials said that a government shutdown will soon affect over 1.3 million military members, including 40,000 in Oklahoma, who risk not being paid if the shutdown lasts more than a few weeks. Federal services such as SNAP, Medicaid, Medicare plus Social Security and several federal buildings may see disruptions while essential services keep running.  2 News
  • Attorney General Gentner Drummond is urging the FCC to let prisons use cellphone-jamming technology to block contraband phones—used by inmates to coordinate criminal activity. Twenty-two attorneys general signed a letter to support the change that seeks to boost security while keeping legal communications intact.  KTUL
  • Tulsa Mayor Monroe Nichols met with public safety leaders and mental health professionals at OU Tulsa on Wednesday night during the first Community Conversation to discuss homelessness and the impact of an $8 million state mental health funding cut. Leaders warned that without new funds, services at organizations like COPES — which diverted over 3,700 calls this year — and GRAND Mental Health may be reduced, and the next session is scheduled for Oct 13 at Hardesty Regional Library.  News On 6
  • Oklahomans at the Tulsa State Fair expressed concerns that a government shutdown may soon affect federal workers, veterans and national parks—veterans worry that funding cuts could end grant support for veteran services while volunteers fear reduced park operations if the shutdown continues.  News On 6

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Tulsa Health Department has been offering flu shots at four Tulsa County sites since October 1st—James O. Goodwin Health Center, Central Regional Health Center, North Regional Health and Wellness Center, and Sand Springs Health Center. Residents aged six months and older can visit during designated walk-in hours or make appointments online or by phone to help ward off illness.  News On 6
