COMMUNITY NEWS

  • CASA for Children is asking 25 community members to serve as Court Appointed Special Advocates for foster children in Muskogee, Sequoyah, Wagoner, and McIntosh Counties — volunteers will be screened and trained — and the first training class starts in November.  KTUL
  • Friends, family and fellow firefighters gathered yesterday to honor Lt. Brian Bizzell who died in a car crash in Owasso on Sept. 30. Bizzell—who served Tulsa for 27 years and was 49—left behind a wife, three children and many heartfelt memories.  2 News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Tulsa firefighters and the community honored Lieutenant Brian Bizzell—a 27-year veteran who died last week in an Owasso crash—with a procession and a funeral service held Monday at Crosstown Church of Christ in Tulsa, and they set up an online fundraiser to support his family.  News On 6

CULTURE NEWS

  • This fall, Tulsa Spirit Tours returns with its 'Thorns and Roses' ghost tour in Broken Arrow's Rose District as guests walk Main Street, hear spooky tales at historical sites, and enjoy a dinner of pizza and non-alcoholic drinks. The 2.5-hour tour (running from 6:30 to 9 p.m.) keeps the group small and intimate.  News On 6
  • A new guide lists some of Tulsa’s top haunted houses and escape rooms featuring attractions like Psycho Path Haunted Attraction on E 106th St. N and The Hex House at Town West; the guide details hours, prices and interactive experiences for family-friendly Halloween fun. Visitors will enjoy a mix of outdoor rides and escape rooms starting this week and running into November.  News On 6
  • FOX23 has compiled a list of Halloween events across Green Country that run through October. The list features events from family-friendly gatherings to spookier celebrations in Tulsa, Sand Springs, and Jenks — offering locals a range of choices for the season.  FOX 23
  • Residents in Tulsa neighborhoods such as Forest Creek+Maple Ridge+Sungate+Sunwood Hills+Swan Lake have prepared large Halloween displays to guide trick-or-treaters, with creative decorations and plenty of candy planned for the night.  News On 6

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tulsa Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Ebony Johnson said the district is working to boost student success, safety, and family engagement while welcoming the new state superintendent Lindel Fields—whose daughter attends TPS. The schools will host a FAFSA night at Tulsa Tech on Oct. 23 to help seniors complete graduation requirements.  News On 6

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The USDA ended its decades-long hunger report Monday, October 6 — a tool that had tracked food insecurity for over 30 years — and Oklahoma advocates warn that the loss could limit critical data for programs serving Tulsa families. Local groups are urging Congress to reinstate the report in the next farm bill to ensure continued support for those in need.  News On 6
  • Tulsa County Commissioner Kelly Dunkerley said the county is addressing homelessness with its longstanding family shelter and planning improvements at LaFortune Park in District 3—joining with state agencies on Operation SAFE to support families in need.  News On 6

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Capital Homes is breaking ground on 73 new homes for Flat Rock Ridge near 36th Street North and Peoria Avenue in Tulsa's Phoenix District, and community meetings helped shape plans for affordable family housing with some families expected to move in by late 2025 and the neighborhood finished by fall 2026.  FOX 23

  • On Saturday, Oklahoma and Texas will play the 121st Red River Rivalry at the Cotton Bowl as Oklahoma's strong defense led by freshman QB Hawkins meets Texas’ balanced offense led by Arch Manning. Both teams will battle to control the line of scrimmage—an effort key to setting the game’s pace.  News On 6
  • Oklahoma City Thunder played the Dallas Mavericks in a preseason game at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth on Monday at 7:20 PM CT—this game marked their first appearance on Griffin Media and was part of a back-to-back schedule with regular season coverage planned from Oct 25.  News On 6
