COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Tulsa nonprofit BeHeard received an 80-locker donation from City Church on Friday, October 10th to help homeless people store important documents and valuables—this new resource adds to the center's services like showers, laundry, and caseworker support.  News On 6
  • Broken Arrow first responders and community members surprised terminally ill teen Westyn Rinehart on Oct. 10 with a party that gave him a ride on a horse, fulfilling one of his heartfelt wishes. The 16-year-old, who has battled a brain tumor since he was very young, was celebrated by family and local groups at the BA Round Up Club.  2 News
  • The Cherokee Nation hosted the grand opening of a remodeled community center and unveiled six new two bedroom, two bath rental units in Ochelata. The center cost $520,000 to renovate—featuring a new fully furnished kitchen, vestibule, solar lighting, and improved walking paths.  FOX 23

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Kelvion opened its largest production facility in Tulsa in August — the new 452,000-square-foot plant has created hundreds of jobs and boosts advanced cooling technology for data centers, AI, and blockchain systems. The facility currently employs about 200 people and will expand to 400 by early next year — production is expected to run at full capacity by March.  News On 6

  • Pop-rock trio Hanson performed a live soundcheck at Guthrie Green on October 10 for the Third Hour broadcast from Today. They joined the 2 NEWS crew to share their excitement about playing in their hometown Tulsa+ the event underscored local pride in the national show.  2 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tulsa has launched a $15 million neighborhood improvement program with $1.5 million dedicated to Sequoyah—residents expect better parks, sidewalks, and street lighting. The city will host public workshops on Oct 16 and Oct 23 at Sequoyah Hills Baptist Church to gather project ideas.  2 News
  • The Tulsa Fire Department will honor 16 fallen firefighters during a memorial set for Sunday, October 12 at 11 a.m. at the Tulsa Fire Museum, 1010 E. 8th Street—officials will deliver remarks and prayers while fire departments nationwide lower flags at noon.  KTUL
  • The City of Tulsa will hold a prescription drug take back event on Saturday, October 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—the event offers several drop-off sites in Tulsa and nearby towns to help fight accidental poisoning, overdose, and misuse of medications while urging residents not to flush unused drugs down the toilet.  FOX 23
  • The Tulsa City-County Library announced that a new branch in Owasso will be named the Eddy Gibbs Library after a lead gift from the Eddy Gibbs Foundation. The branch — featuring a drive-up window, children’s and adult patios, maker space and six huddle rooms — is set to open in 2026 as part of the MY Library, OUR Future campaign that has reached 80% of its funding goal.  FOX 23

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Banana Ball Championship League will return to Tulsa in summer 2026 as the Indianapolis Clowns and Texas Tailgaters play exhibition games on May 7 and May 8 at ONEOK Field — fans can enter a ticket lottery by Oct. 31 for a chance to buy tickets when they go on sale about two months before the games.  News On 6
  • Jenks running back Kaydin (Batman) Jones committed to join the Kansas Jayhawks after he decommitted from Oklahoma State due to a coaching change in Stillwater; the four-star prospect, who had over 30 national offers, announced his decision on October 10th.  News On 6
  • No. 6 Sooners face unranked Longhorns today at 2:30 p.m. in Dallas as fans rode the Heartland Flyer from Oklahoma City, and coach Brent Venables waits for further news regarding quarterback John Mateer—whose hand surgery and recovery have led Offensive Coordinator Ben Arbuckle to list him as a probable starter.  KTUL
