COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A new nonprofit news organization called Tulsa Flyer is launching today under the leadership of veteran journalist Ziva Branstetter. It will post local stories on its website and expand the weekly print edition of The Oklahoma Eagle while partnering with local media.  FOX 23
  • On October 15, Tulsa’s Salvation Army and Women’s Auxiliary shared details about the services they offer to people without homes — such as shelter, food, and support programs — and described ways for community members to help. The groups outlined volunteer opportunities and outreach efforts to assist those in need.  FOX 23
  • City officials revealed the map for Tulsa's Route 66 Capital Cruise on Wednesday. The event, scheduled for May 30, 2026, will feature 3,000 classic cars driving 5.5 miles along Route 66 from Expo Square to 10th and Denver — a centennial celebration planned with input from city leaders and tourism groups.  FOX 23

  • At a Tulsa fair, several Muscogee Creek Nation members shared concerns over sacred remains removed from Hickory Ground in Alabama—an area where construction uncovered human remains and funerary objects. The Nation is urging Auburn University to return over 57 sets of remains and ceremonial items—saying it is both a legal and moral obligation.  2 News
  • Zeeco Oktoberfest will take place this week at River West Festival Park after USA Today named it the best in the U.S. — the festival will offer traditional German food like bratwurst and schnitzel sandwiches with a modern twist from local vendors.  KTUL
  • The Tulsa PAC will host Avatar: The Last Airbender In Concert on October 21 at 7:00 p.m. The event will feature a live orchestra playing the animated series' iconic score along with HD scenes from all three seasons (marking the 20th anniversary tour).  FOX 23

  • Tulsa City-County Library held a groundbreaking event last week in Owasso for the new Eddy Gibbs Library that will offer a 23,000 square foot space with apartments above and new features such as an outdoor children's park, enlarged children's space, and huddle rooms — the library is scheduled to open in 2027 while a temporary branch operates at 314 East Fifth Avenue.  FOX 23

  • Tulsa Zoo is celebrating National Veterinary Technician Week by honoring techs who care for animals such as a 130-year-old tortoise and a flamingo recovering from injury—techs who use treatments like injections, blood draws, and laser therapy— as the week continues through Saturday.  News On 6
