- ➤ The Rose District in Broken Arrow honored veterans by displaying 40 new banners on Main Street that list each service member's military branch and years of service. The banners were added on October 30 and will remain until Veterans Day so residents can reflect on their sacrifices. News On 6
- ➤ Broken Arrow Police Department is asking residents to donate essential items like canned meats, pasta sauce and personal hygiene products at 1101 North 6th Street — a call made amid record numbers of people in need. FOX 23
- ➤ The Giving Machine returns to Tulsa and offers residents a hands-on way to donate directly to local nonprofits this holiday season at the Gathering Place—volunteers will be ready to help. Those who cannot attend in person can give via a recorded Zoom session. KTUL
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Kevin Stitt called on local churches and food banks—amid a SNAP benefits freeze that has increased food demand—to help residents, while the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma increased its workload to serve about 275,000 locals. Mayor Monroe Nichols is planning long-term support with community partners for those losing their benefits. 2 News
- ➤ Excavations at Oaklawn Cemetery uncovered 78 new graves in the search for victims of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre—36 of these were found this week and three sets of remains were sent to the on-site osteology lab for study. Fieldwork began on October 14 and will continue for at least another week. KTUL
- ➤ The City of Tulsa has announced a new inclement weather shelter at BeHeard Movement, located at 7216 E. Admiral Pl, opening on November 17. It will offer case management, health services and shelter space starting with 50-60 beds and expanding to 125 for extreme weather events through March 31 — the facility is run by CREOKS with local partners and funded through ARPA. - ➤ Wrestling for Heroes — hosted by Oklahoma Freedom Flight and Gimmicked Promotions — will run November 14 to 16 in Pryor, featuring live wrestling and meet-and-greets with legends to support veterans' trips to Washington, D.C. News On 6
- ➤ Coach Brent Venables said his team has improved its defense to slow Tennessee’s offense, which scores 45.6 points on average with quarterback Joey Aguilar and play-caller Josh Heupel (a top scoring unit).
