- ➤ The Cherokee Nation declared a food security emergency after SNAP benefits were suspended due to the federal government shutdown and will send $1.25 million to regional food banks as part of a $6.75 million response to help affected families—eligible nonprofits within or near the tribe’s reservation can apply for a one-time grant of at least $2,000 by November 7 at 5:00 p.m. FOX 23
