COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Kristen Wittman from Broken Arrow said the Okmulgee cemetery where her husband's family is buried is overgrown and poorly maintained. After making several calls, cemetery officials explained they lack funds plus they welcome volunteer help including support from the Muscogee Creek Nation to tidy the grounds before Veterans Day.  FOX 23
  • During the government shutdown, Perfect Food & Gas in Tulsa began serving free pizzas to SNAP cardholders to help neighbors in need. The offer started November 1 and will continue as long as the shutdown lasts—more local customers are benefiting from this community effort.  News On 6
  • The Tulsa Police Foundation and the Police Department launch their annual Random Acts of Kindness initiative today. From today to Friday, officers will surprise residents with meal kits and gifts and will also deliver boxes of diapers, pull-ups, and wipes to families with young children (outreach has doubled from 150 to 350 meal kits).  FOX 23
  • Tulsa shelters are preparing for freezing temperatures as John 3:16 Mission will open its warming station for 200 people—while the new BeHeard shelter will open on November 17 and seeks volunteers.  News On 6

  • A freeze warning was in effect from 9 PM Sunday to 9 AM Monday for parts of east central, northeast and southeast Oklahoma as temperatures dropped to 22 and risked killing plants and damaging unprotected plumbing—residents took steps to protect tender vegetation.  FOX 23
