COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Amber Welch, owner of Amber Marie Manor, charged for holiday tours of her historic Maple Ridge home, leading neighbors to object to a business in a residential area (several residents have lived there for decades). The city issued a violation notice and told her to apply for a (special exemption) so the tours meet code.  News On 6
  • Tulsa realtor Holly Standlee is one of three community contestants dancing today at Cain’s Ballroom to raise funds for San Miguel Middle School, where the event supports supplies like Chromebooks and playground equipment (her invitation came after a school tour with President Juan Miret). She is rehearsing with a Tulsa dance pro to offer her support for the school’s ongoing mission.  News On 6
  • Food On The Move will host an emergency food distribution on Wednesday at Tulsa Community College’s Northeast Campus starting at 11:30 a.m.—this walk-up event will offer hundreds of bags of fresh produce and staple items to help families affected by the SNAP pause. Volunteers prepared the bags after last week’s drive-up event that gave out 450 bags, and the program will continue in coming pop-ups.  FOX 23
  • City Lights Foundation is asking Tulsa residents to donate warm clothing and essentials, including coats—gloves, hats, and blankets—to help neighbors facing homelessness this winter. The nonprofit hosts Night Light Tulsa every Thursday and is advancing a $26 million housing project to permanently support those in need.  News On 6
  • On Wednesday, the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma—responding to a SNAP suspension—loaded pallets with triple their typical food amount to support 600 partner agencies. CEO Jeff Marlow said the team worked overtime to help feed vulnerable Oklahomans in the eastern part of the state.  FOX 23
  • Muscogee Creek Nation gave 400 boxes with 20 lbs of beef each to SNAP recipients in Okmulgee as part of its effort to ease food insecurity caused by the federal shutdown.   • A Tulsa-based startup used artificial intelligence to save lives and received support from the local innovation ecosystem—its Rose Rock Bridge Program fueled growth for Safety Radar and advanced energy innovation. The company will expand its projects in the coming months.  FOX 23
  • Business owners near 11th and Harvard say the construction has hurt foot traffic at local spots like Jones Co. Coffee, which has been open since 2023. City contractors explained that workers are milling off asphalt and replacing a waterline with an estimated finish on Dec. 15—businesses are encouraged to contact the city if signage issues arise during business hours.  2 News

  • The Oklahoma Route 66 Association is celebrating 99 years of the Mother Road today at 6 p.m. with craft cocktails + dinner + a live auction that honors the historic highway built in 1926 by Tulsan Cyrus Avery.  FOX 23

  • Air travelers face delays as the FAA will cut 10% of flights at 40 major airports by Friday—this decision comes amid a 43-day government shutdown that could end soon and may result in canceled flights and added costs. At Tulsa International Airport, travelers are advised to monitor flight updates and consider travel insurance to cover unexpected expenses if connecting flights are missed.  2 News

  • The White House has been exploring a 50-year mortgage plan to help first-time buyers amid record-high housing prices—officials say the proposal is still in development. Local realtor Cindy Morrison with Chinowth & Cohen REALTORS warned that while smaller monthly payments might ease affordability, paying more interest over time could slow equity building—raising concerns for buyers.  News On 6

  • Tulsa’s BOK Center will host the 2026 SEC Gymnastics Championships on March 21, 2026, where nine top programs will compete.   • Ethan Reece from Collinsville trains at Obtain Strength Gym in Tulsa and will head to Wolverhampton, England for the USPA World Championships after winning the USPA National Heavyweight Championship in Las Vegas.
