  • Public Service Company of Oklahoma is delivering over 30,000 LED bulbs to 33 food pantries today as part of its Shine a Light Project (launched in 2014) to boost energy efficiency and support families in need; the program has brightened over a million lives across the state.  KTUL
  • The Common Good will host its Christmas Joy event tomorrow in Tulsa’s 74127 zip code, where families can shop for donated gifts and receive grocery bags with fresh produce from Food On The Move. New sponsors QuikTrip & Scheels join to help distribute over 1,000 toys to local families.  KTUL
  • Discoveryland Ranch in Sand Springs launches its first Country Christmas Market today, offering shopping, free carriage rides and live holiday shows featuring characters from Theater Tulsa's production of Frozen (and meet-and-greets with Santa). The market runs 10am to 8pm today and again December 13 and 14.  News On 6
  • A 10-year-old boy in Barnsdall is asking anglers to mail in fishing memories instead of toys this Christmas (with video support from local fishing champion Edwin Evers). His family will display the cards on Christmas Eve as they gather heartfelt tales.  2 News

  • The Bead Merchant at 15th and Harvard celebrates 35 years in business with ongoing sales and festivities this weekend as customers enjoy crafting sessions and explore walls lined with beads from around the world.  2 News

  • A new alternative rock trio, Mingo Drive, will open for Third Eye Blind and The Paradox at Cain's Ballroom on Tuesday, Dec. 9 during The Edge's Christmas Concert (their first performance at the venue).  News On 6
  • Tulsa doctor and singer-songwriter James Robert Webb appears as a fictional version of himself in the Nashville holiday film Music City Mistletoe, now streaming on Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV. He co-wrote two original songs while balancing his medical career with his Green Country roots.  News On 6

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Oklahoma State Department of Education launched a new tool on Friday, Dec. 5 that lets parents compare schools side by side + helps school leaders identify effective practices at nearby schools. It is available on oklaschools.com/school-compare.  KTUL
  • The Simon Estes Educational Foundation said that only 25 Tulsa area students have applied for its $10,000 scholarship—a sharp drop from previous years. The foundation urges Tulsa Public Schools to help spread the word about the opportunity.  KTUL

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Broken Arrow mental health therapist saved a life when she noticed a man on a bridge ledge in crisis (he was contemplating suicide) during the holiday season. She and another local resident called 988 for help.  2 News
  • Saint Francis Health System will continue giving newborn hepatitis B shots within the first 24 hours, following more than 30 years of proven practice as a CDC advisory committee reviews the schedule (new guidelines are not finalized).  FOX 23

  • Tulsa County reminded first-time homebuyers about its down payment assistance program (offering a 6.35% interest rate and 3.5% support with down payment or closing costs) with $10M still available until funds run out. Buyers must meet income limits and complete an approved homebuyer course.  News On 6
